Thirty years ago, it all seemed very clear.

"American Planes Hit North Vietnam After Second Attack on Our Destroyers; Move Taken to Halt New Aggression", announced a Washington Post headline on Aug. 5, 1964.

That same day, the front page of the New York Times reported: "President Johnson has ordered retaliatory action against gunboats and 'certain supporting facilities in North Vietnam' after renewed attacks against American destroyers in the Gulf of Tonkin."

But there was no "second attack" by North Vietnam — no "renewed attacks against American destroyers." By reporting official claims as absolute truths, American journalism opened the floodgates for the bloody Vietnam War.

A pattern took hold: continuous government lies passed on by pliant mass media...leading to over 50,000 American deaths and millions of Vietnamese casualties.

Baghdad from the air is so much more breathtaking than Baghdad from the ground..... eh?

5. I can only imagine the pressure on the media...

The BushCo thugs are sooo predictable. They're running their usual plays.

The media was doing a good job of covering Cindy and the protests. I would say the coverage was fair and favorable, for the most part.

We all know that Rove strongarms the media. He lets them know when he's displeased and when they need to stop covering stories, or tone it down.

I'm assuming that Cindy's positive coverage was getting to all of them. They stepped in and issued warnings. Now we're seeing some of the media cave and cater to BushCo/RoveCo.

Just my opinion, but we're at a crossroads. The story is dead unless we can breath some "newsworthy" life into it--forcing the media to cover it. The news value of the story must exceed Karl's threats.

With that said, I'm about ready to puke. I can't take what these thugs have done to this country--and more importantly--I can't understand how they get away with it.

I have a degree in journalism and I can tell you that if Karl Rove ever called me to tell me how to do my job--I'd tell him to fark off. How is it that a stay-at-home mom like myself, have more backbone than the big, bad CNBC journalists?

She denies stating that Iraq is a "war for Israel".

Agree or disagree with that statement, it is a fact Israel had spies in the Defense department that provided intel lies Bush used to justify the War.

Personally I think the war profiteering neocons were happy to use any assistance (intel lies) that Israel could provide. But that doesnt make it a war for Israel (I disagree).

I do think Israel is complicit in the neocon crimes.
