SL Co. Will Pay $4,803 To Animal Rights Protesters

(Courtesy The Salt Lake Tribune) SALT LAKE CITY Salt Lake County has agreed to pay additional money for turning away animal rights protesters from Abravanel Hall last year.

The county will pay the Utah Animal Rights Coalition an additional 48-hundred dollars. The agreement puts an end to litigation over the right of small groups of protesters to gather without a permit. The county earlier paid the group and their attorney more than eleven-thousand dollars.

In December, two UARC members were handing out leaflets to concertgoers leaving Abravanel Hall. That's when a security officer told them they couldn't demonstrate on the adjoining public sidewalk or within one block of the building.

The UARC later filed a lawsuit and the county agreed to pay them the more than eleven-thousand dollars. The county also admitted that protesters had a right to free speech near the hall.
