Geneva Accord for Israel/Palestine Peace: Help us Build Public Support—Donate to the Ad, please.
Here's the good news: there actually is an agreement for Israel/Palestine peace between the people who were chosen by their respective governments to continue negotiations at Taba in early 2001. The agreement is called The Geneva Accord, and it calls for:
return of Israel to the pre-67 borders with minor border modifications specified in the agreement
compensation for Palestinian refugees for their lost property and for their time as refugees
return of Israeli settlers to the pre-67 borders of Israel
sharing of Jerusalem, with Israel retaining control over the Wall and Palestinians over the Temple Mount
detailed plans for security cooperation to protect both states from the inevitable haters on both sides who will do all they can to destroy the agreement
much more.

Nov/Dec 2003:
Now, all that is needed is get the Israeli governent to agree. The Palestinian Authority has let it be known that it would support the Geneva Accord if the Israeli government would, but so far Ariel Sharon has only denounced it. Our task is to build public support in the U.S.
Last Sunday I met with Yossi Beilin, the former Minister of Justice for the State of Israel, who negotiated the agreeement with Yasser Abed Rabbo, former Minister of Information of the Palestinian Authority. He was very excited to hear that The Tikkun Community would play a major role in bringing this agreement into the public discourse in the U.S.
As a first step, we'd like to buy a series of ads in major newspapers, starting with the New York Times. Yes, we also hate to give them the money for this, but we've found that the Times ads are very, very effective in getting a particular point of view into public discussion—we've already tried op eds and news releases, but as Jimmy Carter recently noted in an op ed of his, the American media is so far largely ignoring the Geneva Accord.
So we need your financial help on this. The NY Times ad will include a place where we will list the names of people who have endorsed the Geneva Accord. We hope to be able to fit the names of everyone who has donated $250 or more for the cost of the ad, and there is a slight chance that we might be able to put the names of others as well.
