Senator Ted Kennedy in Austin,TX Dec 12 fund raiser for TCRP
DUers, this is a bit pricey but it is an annual fund raiser and it is for an extremely worthy cause. TCRP does great work in Texas. Please come if you can afford it.

The Texas Civil Rights Project
at the
Michael Tigar Human Rights Center
is honored to welcome
Senator Edward M. (Ted) Kennedy
as keynote speaker for our annual Bill of Rights Dinner.

Date: December 12, 2003
Location: Four Seasons Hotel, Austin, Texas
Time: 6:30pm

The Texas Civil Rights Project promotes racial, social, and economic justice through education and litigation. Since its beginning, TCRP has worked hard in the areas of voting rights, racial and gender-based discrimination, hate crimes, privacy, disability rights, and free speech issues, to name a few. Serving the poor and the powerless, TCRP has handled hundreds of cases for Texans who have nowhere else to turn for assistance.

Senator Kennedy has represented Massachusetts in the United States Senate since first elected in 1962 to finish the term of his brother, President John F. Kennedy. Since then, he has been re-elected seven times, and he is now the second most senior member of the Senate.

Throughout his career, Kennedy has fought for issues that benefit the nation. The struggle to bring quality health care to every American is a battle that Kennedy has been waging ever since he arrived in the Senate. Kennedy is also active on a wide range of other issues, including homeland security, restoring economic growth and helping the unemployed, improving elementary and secondary schools and making colleges more affordable, raising the minimum wage, defending the rights of workers and their families, strengthening civil rights laws, assisting individuals with disabilities, fighting for cleaner water and cleaner air, protecting and strengthening Social Security and dealing with judicial nominations.

2. Glad to hear it el_gato
I don't have a ticket yet and I was hoping we could get a group of us from DU who could make it. If we get a table of 10 of us, we can go to the VIP reception and meet Ted up close and personal.

I missed the Chomsky dinner last year but did hear his talk at UT. Noam is a great person.

Please feel free to pass the info along to other groups or anyone you think might be interested in coming to this year's event.

4. Yep I know it el_gato
The money at this time of year is already tough at $125, so $250 would be very, very tough. That's assuming we could get 10 people willing to pay that much each.

Just thought I would put it out there in case there are some wealthy benefactors/sponsors.

Maybe we could all sit at a table even if we can't spring the $250 tickets. I don't think they have assigned seating. So let's keep each other posted on who can make it.

5. I'm going to try to budget a ticket for myself.
I don't know if I can though. I have a few bills to pay off. I got your e-mail Sonia. I don't know if we can pull off a table, but it would be nice.

8. I worry about Ted Kennedy even setting foot in Texas. Its a dangerious
place as a whole, even though Austin is not like the rest of Texas.
