Our presence no longer ignored . . . Our voices no longer denied. |

Our local Collier County Democratic club is using this slogan.
Don't know if it's original, but I LIKE IT.

2. Thankfully, it's just the opposite |

More Democrats showed up for a Senatorial debate about a month ago than have gathered probably ever in the history of the Naples area. Right in the heart of Republican land at our Philharmonic, over three times as many Democrats showed up, as did Republicans for a similar event.
I would still say we qualify for "endangered", but if I have anything to do with it, we'll move up to "protected" status soon! There is momentum in that direction, partly because many of our newer residents are from the Northeast, where more Democrats come from, as opposed to the Midwest, where everyone used to come from.
Ft. Myers is also seeing a Democratic "outing", as witnessed by several big business owners publicly supporting the election of Kerry Edwards, and also a growing GLBT group.
I've been waiting for this my entire life, having grown up here, but wait, I see light at the end of the tunnel.
Although still small, the Collier County Democratic Club is stronger than ever and growing. At a recent meeting, Senator McGovern thanked George Bush. :kick:

I now live in Fort Myers, which isn't much better. Like you, I keep pounding the pavement. Who know's maybe one day it will pay off. :)

4. Heard about the Moveon party at "Schmooz"? |
|
I think that's what it's called. I met the owners the other day. They seem like good guys and are doing their part.
Many of my gay friends have left town lately. I miss them, but I don't blame them. Tampa, Boulder, and beyond!

It's a nice bistro-type place. Go to Moveon to get all the info. You can link to it from my website, which is linked below, if you'd like.
