Dean Commercial Idea, to Counter the Body-Piercing One
Dean should run his own commercial, showing him first saying, I hope to get all voters, even the..

Then cut to an attractive couple with piercings saying "I guess I'll have to vote for Dean now,"

Then show a person getting out of a Volvo who looks at the camera, and says "Well, I guess I have to support Dean now, as he likes the Volvo drivers."

Move on to a coffee shop, where the whole group are drinking various specialty coffee drinks (my favorite is iced-mocha, but I drink regular coffee in the morning by the way) and when asked, the crowd shouts in unison, "We support Howard Dean, the candidate of the latte drinkers,"

Then show a poor working-man saying "Tax-cut, did someone get a tax-cut, I didn't get a tax-cut? I'm voting for Dean" proceeding quickly through all stereotypes listed by the retired rich-Republican-couple in the ad.

Then have Dean come on and say, "I'm a candidate for inclusion, not making fun of people for the silliest reasons, unrelated to politics. This is what my detractors have come to, and it is sad America that elements of the democratic party would stoop to Republican prejudices."

Or something along those lines. Humor, is best answered by the humorous.

1. I've been out of the loop
Is there a link to the ad you're proposal counters?

From your desciption it sounds completely absurd AND hilarious.

2. It was funny...
Showed this old couple, supposedly Iowans, I guess saying Dean should take his body-piercing, latte-drinking, volvo-driving, etc. back to Vermont.

I'm surprised you haven't seen it. It was on Crossfire yesterday, and if you watch any of the political shows, you'll probably see it. I think it was aired by one of the conservative Democrat groups, or perhaps a Republican group. I know they had "Growth" in their advocacy name.

3. Text of the ad follows:
"A dignified older couple walks out of a barber shop. An off-screen announcer asks what they think of Howard Dean’s plan to raise taxes on a typical family by $1,900.
"Without hesitation, the husband responds: 'What do I think? Well, I think Howard Dean should take his tax-hiking, government-expanding, latte-drinking, sushi-eating, Volvo-driving, New York Times-reading…'

"His wife continues: '…body piercing, Hollywood-loving, left-wing freak show back to Vermont where it belongs.'"
