My encounter with a Clark campaign worker in CA |
|
Today when I went grocery shopping, I encountered a woman handing out Clark literature in front of the Trader Joe's. I smiled and said that I was currently committed to another candidate, but that I would vote for Clark if he won the general election.
I wish I had gone further. I wish I had said, "It is great that you are out here. I hope we'll work together to defeat Bush in November, and you have my respect and admiration for supporting your candidate. Good for you!"
The next time I see any supporter of any Democratic candidate, that is what I will do. Wish I'd thought of it this time!
ABB, when the time comes! Civility and dignity until that day!

Except this part is wishful thinking, unfortunately. "Civility and dignity until that day!" :(
But, thank you, I like your post and it made me feel so good. :)

5. You got it! I LOVE my candidate, but I will be working for the |
|
nominee from day one. My hope is that I won't shed a tear or two before I start pounding the shoeleather. (Some more.)
I don't care what gets thrown around in the primarys. I'm on board. Day one.
This is what we *must* do to defeat Bush!

We had a very civil debate in Reno NV which was put on by the Anti-war coalititon. It included a rep from Clark, Kerry, Kucinich and Dean. All there wished that it was a friendlier campaign trail. Believe it or not the most aggressive were the five Kucinich supporters, Dean had 2 people, Kerry had 4 and Clark had 15. The debate was being recorded for public TV so the amount of space was small as it was in a studio

8. I think this is one more example of Democrats working together |
|
to sort out the issues before the General Election, without enmity. Thing is, as we all know, the press latches onto the negative, because that's what sells.
As individuals, we need to counter that in our interactions with supporters of other candidates. Thanks for the info about your debate. Let us know if/when there's a link!
Again, we will only win in '04 with a UNIFIED PARTY.

9. I've had such positive |
|
responses from people when I've done tabling for Clark. Had a long conversation with a Kucinich supporter who was feeling a bit demoralized. We talked about Kucinich and Clark and I thanked him for keeping an open mind.
Certainly my experiences on the street have been much more positive than some of the ones I've had in GD. I wish we all could just keep our eye on the prize and not be so divisive. :-)

10. Clark has really set the tone for his supporters |
|
We know that he wants to run an above board campaign and slinging mud at other Democrats is not the way to do that.
One thing that has attracted me to Clark is the civil tone. I miss that in campaigns.

11. Respect & Working with other Clark supporters has been a true joy |
|
First, let me say you are right. We should all treat each other with respect. Even if someone is campaigning for a candidate I don't really like, I can still compliment the person for doing something, and wish them luck. We're all in this for the same thing -remove GWB!
I've been working on the Clark campaign since the day after he announced. I've been in Sarasota, Miami, Ft. Lauderdale, Orlando, Tampa, & the Naples/Ft. Myers area. I have to say that Clark supporters are a joy to work with. We all see our candidate as a man who can bring dignity and respect back to the Presidency and the country. Even when another candidate's supporters wanted to brawl at the Orlando convention, I told our group, to "back off, and take the high road". I'm just following the lead of our candidate Wes Clark, the next President of the United States.
