OMG! I just figured out how we can take back the Senate & House TOMORROW!
It's simple:

every Democrat in both houses declares that he is changing his party affiliation to Republican.

That means that any Dem with seniority sitting on any committee as the ranking member automatically becomes the Chairman of the committee (OK, maybe I'm wrong here). If not automatic, he could challenge the committee chairman on ranking member grounds (maybe not. Opinions?)

The Dems then proceed to bollix everything up in committee until after the election. And who will get blamed? Why, the Repugs of course...since everyone is now a repug.

Am I crazy...or silly...or both?

6. Nah
republican party leaders have weakened the seniority system. now Tom Delay and Hastert determine who chairs what committee.

7. True, but these two creeps serve at the pleasure of the R's who elect them
They won their positions in R caucus elections I believe. Shades of Bill Paxton, only this time it could be John Lewis or Bobbie Rush or Bernie Sanders or Rahm Emanuel leading the charge. All it would take is cutting deals with a few moderate (current) R's who resent their emasculation at the hands of the Bugman.

I realize it's fantasy, but I love creative thinking. Dream on, stopbush. Enough new ideas, and eventually one clicks.

What the R's enjoy now was once only a wet dream on the back bench.

8. In fact BOTH parties
have taken actions that limit seniority as committee chairs.
Danny R brought this on with the "house restaurant", "house post office" and other scandals. Yes, there were real abuses going on.

9. Chairmanships aren't automatically decided by seniority
And each Caucus has the right to decide who can and cannot join thier caucus. A few years ago a Democratic congressman voted for a Republican for Speaker. The Democratic Caucus decided to punish him by stripping him of all of his committee assignments.
