The GOP to Hillary: Stay a Little Longer

Jon Alter's getting ridiculed for his column urging Hillary Clinton to drop out now. And I have to confess I didn't find it wildly convincing, either. But one thought about whether or not Hillary should stay in does occur to me: her continued presence in the race does help the GOP by allowing for stuff like this Drudge story:

Mon Feb 25 2008 06:51:00 ET

With a week to go until the Texas and Ohio primaries, stressed Clinton staffers circulated a photo over the weekend of a "dressed" Barack Obama.

The photo, taken in 2006, shows the Democrat frontrunner fitted as a Somali Elder, during his visit to Wajir, a rural area in northeastern Kenya.

The senator was on a five-country tour of Africa.

"Wouldn't we be seeing this on the cover of every magazine if it were HRC?" questioned one campaign staffer, in an email obtained by the DRUDGE REPORT.

This is a total win-win for Drudge. Not only does he get to post a photo of Obama dressed like a foreigner (and a Muslim foreigner at that); he gets to attribute the smear to the Clinton people. This, if you'll recall, was the exact same M.O. Insight Magazine used last year to float its B.S. Obama-madrassa story--citing "sources close to {a} background check," which was "conducted by researchers connected to Senator Clinton." ( A good rundown of this whole dynamic, including some stuff I wrote that is gone and quite possibly never coming back to our archives, can be found here.)

So, while I don't think Hillary should drop out before Texas and Ohio, her withdrawal would mean that if the GOP wanted to smear Obama, they'd have to do it without hiding behind her.

1. Better for the Dems if Obana drops out - as the GOP wants the weaker
weaker polling Obama.

It is a bit pathetic that the Obama folks deny his smear/play the race card/lie campaign - or that those
"left" ideas are per Obama "on the table" to trade for GOP love and changing the atmosphere in DC.

The best part has been Obama stopping discussion of his lack of political ability to get left type victories of any size - by play the race card and getting 24/7 discussion of the "race card" - all by using his folks to say they saw racial undertones in comments by Clinton supporters - while he let it boil for a few weeks until he finally said the Clintons were not racists (not noting anything they had accomplished for blacks - like better jobs/income) but then claiming Hillary should be faulted for lack of control of all who support her - only 4 weeks later when he unleashed a few slurs/smears via supporters he claimed it was silly to assume anyone could control their supporters.

The walk on water sale via a GOP organizations/corporate media that has had its emails explaining its support of Obama as an attempt to get the weaker candidate printed on DU many times seems to work well with the men that are afraid of a women in authority.

2. Let's get this straight; the CLINTON camp is playing the race card
and has off and on throughout her campaign, not the Obama camp. You seem to be taking lessons from the wh; repeat a lie often enough and people will believe you. Well, I don't. You never back your b.s. up, just keep on spouting. Why is that? I realize you're disappointed in your gal and the crappy way her campaign has been run, but try to find 'something' redeeming about her, would ya?

7. not only does the Clinton campaign THINK we're all stupid sis
they count on it as a voting block-people who are of a certain age who don't use a computer for information-they are too old to learn now and/or they can't afford one anyway
