Every candidate except Dean wants to make all paranoid schizophrenics |

...with severe homicidal tendencies free to roam the streets without any intervention by anyone until they actually attack somebody. They've all said it and so their positions on this issue are clearly different from just Dean's.
(Sorry, I just felt compelled to start a moronic thread in this forum. It's contagious...)

Thanks for that. :D
I've been a little exasperated with the some of the inane assumptions and commentary I've read today.

Howard Dean says he'll require all pancake, waffle, and french toast eaters to use 100% pure Vermont maple syrup instead of that fake stuff, else face a federal fine of $100 per incident. Some people prefer the taste of artificially maple flavored corn syrup, so this is an outrage.

11. I just had Vermont maple syrup last weekend for the 1st time...yummy! |

I never even liked maple syrup but when I was in New Hampshire they had it and I figured it might be real Vermont maple syrup because Concord is pretty close to the Vermont border, and it was...so I had to try it. And it was really good...I can see why people from upper New England are such snobs about maple syrup. So I would support this law. :D

|
So are you saying Dean favors picking up people who have done nothing wrong and incarcerating them?

Reporter: "Governor Dean, do you favor picking up people who have done nothing wrong and incarcerating them?"
Dean: "No."
Reporter: "Well, OK then. Just checking."

Gotta link to that story? Where actual people died?
Otherwise, I'll throw it onto the pile of self-discrediting posts you've made.

10. Dean advocates that all American jobs... |
|
...be relocated to Vermont.
No more "Tom's of Maine." It's gonna be "Tom's of Vermont." And so forth. No -- that's the stuff Dean leaves out of his rousing speeches....
If you sit at a desk, or work in a factory -- your job will be taken over by some scratchy sweater-wearing Vermontungian! Labor is cheaper there because the roads are impassible 11 months out of the year, which traps laborers at their workplaces. It's even cheaper than India -- because corporations do not have to shell out for leg irons to make them stay put, and can avoid the "stigma" of slave labor that attaches to American corporations that operate in China.

I knew a brilliant girl in college who just "snapped" one day. boom. paranoid/schizophrenia
It was a sad sad sight, everyone on campus wanted to help her, (it's hard to convince someone who's paranoid to swallow a pill) and it's even more upsetting when you know the med works.
you can spin all day about this, but it's a tough choice and I wish now as I did then that we could have done more to help either way.

as a social worker with clinical experience working with the mentally ill, I think Dean is more aware of what is occurring at inpatient facilities than the other candidates. On CSPAN last night, he was acknowledging how difficult it is to treat mentally ill patients who are 5150'd and released. He stated that when they released (and he focusing on the homeless who are mentally ill) they decompensate even further and often end up back in inpatient worse than before. The conundrum is treating the mentally ill who obviously need treatment , but not trodding upon their civil liberties and rights to refuse medication, etc. Dean acknowledged it is a tough and difficult way of thinking, but I appreciated his honesty for admitting it.
