Kerry copying Dean!?
Wow, I just went to Johnkerry.com and holy god, it looks like the Dean site.I think this is great and I think all campaigns should copy dean because what Joe Trippi and the dean supporters have done is absolutly ground breaking and amazing. The DNC should copy this too and all state parties.Lets get the ball rolling!

10. They did?
I did not see anything about that in the thread, which btw was moved to Gen discussion. I read about combining our efforts to help dems nationwide, but I thought Joe Trippi was behind Dean's campaign the whole way?

" Nonetheless, Kerry and others have begun to copy Dean's high-tech moves. Kerry has signed a contract with Meetup.com, the commercial site Dean is using to arrange monthly meetings for supporters around the country. Kerry and Lieberman have also hired Convio Inc., which provides the software engine not only for the Dean campaign but also for the 1,100 Dean supporters who have set up their own websites to promote his candidacy.

2. Nice. but Dean could use headlines like this on his site:
"Chicago Teamsters' local backs Kerry"

"The Chicago Teamsters Local 705 announced Monday it is supporting Massachusetts Sen. John Kerry for president. The announcement comes on the eve of the AFL-CIO meeting in Chicago in which the Democratic candidates will gather for a presidential forum...Gerald Zero, the local's secretary-treasurer, said..."We think Kerry has the better chance to win.''

3. They look pretty different to me...
Kerry's looks a bit like Gore's did, if memory serves.

4. Imitation is a form of flattery, isn't it ;-)
Kerry's website and even his more populist rhetoric is no doubt observering Dean. I don't see this as being a big surprise or outrageous scandal. Dean's internet campaigning has been like nothing we have seen and wildly successful, everyone should be taking notes.

5. don't forgot Jerry Brown and his 1-800 number in '92
a lot of people took notes from that campaign re: grassroots appeal.

6. Dean helps Kerry
Other than himself, Dean hasn't helped anyone as much as he's helped Kerry. Not only with the new emphasis on the Web, but in getting Kerry to sharpen his message and get out of the fatal front-runner mode. If Kerry wins this thing, he's going to owe a lot to Dean. (I see maybe a Surgeon General's spot in the doctor's future...or ambassador to Iraq.)

8. Not to be picky
But there just aren't a lot of different ways to present a campaign website.

I do wish they'd stop with the three column format and instead do a 1 column 4-block format, but that might be too confusing for the type of information they present.

11. What chu talkin' bout?
I think they're quite different. The two things that Kerry got ideas from Dean were the "internet supporters counter" and the Meetup sign. The former is a universal idea that nobody has a copyright to, and Meetup is not a Dean invention.

12. from a design standpoint, they're a good bit different
and could both use help.

But I really like Kerry's blue pinstripe background, and it's loading much faster these days...

13. the Kerry vs. Dean feud has died down a bit
petty crap like whether Kerry copied Dean's website might have caused a big stink a couple of months ago, but I think people realize that Rove has made exploiting that division a big part of his strategy, and they don't want to help Karl out.
