Will the Davis-Bustamante feud do both of them in?
I guess Lt. Gov Cruz Bustamante accused the Davis campaign or aides of "undercutting" his campaign by telling labor leaders and contributors to not support him.

Of course I see Davis' point of view. Having another Democrat on the ballot gives Democrats a reason to vote YES on the recall as long as they have someone other than Gray to vote for.

I've gone back and forth on this one. At first, I thought that it best that no Dem run on the recall ballot in deference to Davis who was legitimatley elected last year and has done nothing to warrant being recalled. In my heart I still feel that way, yet in my brain I think it is best to have a Democrat on the ballot--just in case.

1. This is Bustamante being an asshole not Davis
He did the exact same thing with the farm labor bill right before the election causing a very public rift that is PART of what made the election between Davis and Simon so close.

2. I think you are right
I don't think Cruz should have brought it up nationally it doesn't help either Davis or him.

3. Ritchie Ross the strategist helping Bustamante is also a Repub

4. I respectfully disagree
What made the Davis/Simon election so close is the fact that Davis is a huge asshole who made it very difficult for loyal democrats like me to vote for him.

I want and expect Davis and Bustamante to get together on this campaign and I want both of them to adopt a no recall, yes Bustamante position publicly. Bustamante has, and yes, his candidacy forced it on Davis, but it would be a good opportunity for Davis not to look like such a self-centered bastard and more of a team player.

6. Sorry Jack I knew Steve Smith when he worked for Willy Brown
This is the way Bustamante operates. This isn't the way Steve Smith operates. Bustamante went public with the farm bill rpior to the election when he could have accomplished the same thing without a camera present.

10. I thought Bustamonte was a bit out of line
I'll still probably vote for him though I really like Arianna. If Kevin Shelley were doing his job, there would be only one half to the ballot and Bustamonte should be governor in the event of a recall.

7. This actually might be agreed strategy b/w Davis and Cruz
Some polls might be showing that Cruz will get more votes if he contrasts against Davis like this. It's not like Daviz, Cruz, and labour don't know exactly what's at stake.

So, don't worry about this. Check and see if Cruz's numbers go up. If they do, it's smart strategy.

9. We have seen this before, either way
Two competing liberal Senate candidates(hey, nice dedicated guys too!) handing over the election to James Buckley(do nothing conservative) in NY or eg. the many defenses on DU that self-destructive behavior by Dems is actually a "plan". Either way it seems very often the Dems lose by the stereoyped image of being bickering democrats. In these kinds of Dem vs. Dem contests those fratricidal Dems NEVER reappear on the political scene. It takes forever to dump the low quality Repugs that sneak in.

Well, they can hang together or hang separately. That cute revolutionary phrase is still appropriate.
