Dean's remarks on voting machine fraud....
From the Dean blog:

I am SO pleased that Gov. Dean mentioned his concerns with the voting machines while at a fundraiser in Houston today.

According to Rob's, Get Donkey Blog:

"After that was all settled, Dean gave his speech in front of a private crowd of about 150 donors. It was, for the most part, his normal stump speech, and he took some Q&A at the end. During the Q&A he was asked how he was going to beat Karl Rove. Dean said that he had been thinking on that a lot, but one thing he was concerned about was electronic voting machines. He said that the problems with the electronic voting machines were brought to his attention not by his staff, but by the people that visit his blog. He said that he had started to do his own research on the matter, and didn't like what he was finding out. "Maybe we could get someone from China to monitor our elections." he quipped.

Thank You, Gov. Dean for listening. Now let us know what we can do to help you solve this problem. (...or let us know what you can do to help us solve the problem!) Time is running out and those easily changed Microsoft Access databases in the Diebold machines are being installed all across the country.

I'm so thankful to see that Gov. Dean really is "People Powered Howard!"

(Note: He said essentially the same thing at my house last month. He said that he has some staff workers looking into this.)

1. "people powered Howard"
I hate that corny line, but it's SO true. Between the official website, the blog, and his face-to-face interaction with people, Gov. Dean really seems to address the concerns of the PEOPLE, not the pundits. I'm constantly amazed by the way he makes individual views matter.

7. That was one thing that really impressed me when we had
him at the house. He did not ever answer a question with a "sound bite" or a "I'll have someone look into this and get back to you". He spoke directly to the person who asked the question, and addressed it without sidestepping or obfuscating. In a couple of cases, Dean's answer probably wasn't what the person wanted to hear, but Dean makes it clear that he won't just pander for a vote. There are things that we will disagree with him on. But you will know where he stands.

It was refreshing to actually hear a candidate speak frankly.

I asked him privately about Pension protections for union members, and was amazed at his grasp of the scope of the problems that the airline industry in particular has faced. A very intelligent and informed guy, IMO....

2. "being installed all across the country"
Is there any chance that the tide can be turned back? How long until this gets broad mainstream media attention? And then how long before a reliable voting process can be put in place? I'm scared.

3. The Republican Manufactured And Programmed Voting
machines need to be stopped ASAP! When will someone admit that America had it's first coup in the year 2000?!

4. Excellent...
...there are some that may be satisfied with the status quo, and don't see a problem with vote fraud, but it's good to see that Dean is concerned that those who vote for him should have their votes counted...

5. Good! ALL the Dem candidates should be speaking out on this,

demanding investigations and changes to make the machines honest and capable of being audited.

6. Credit goes to our very own godbushncheney for giving Dean the info
on Bev Harris' (also our very own) research a couple of months ago. Hopefully, I'll be able to give him a fairly thorough update when I meet him on Friday.

If you haven't been keeping track of the issue. Bev now has a website for activism at www.blackboxvoting.org. We all need to be working like demons to keep these black box machines from eating our votes.

11. So Dean really is listening?
This moves him up a notch in my estimation. Somebody needs to show some leadership on this issue, and if it's Dean, he's showing that he knows how to earn my vote.

BTW, anybody catch the latest story about evoting on slashdot? Some smart aleck codemonkey argued you won't have to hack Access to throw the election-- All you need is an email virus/trojan client-side.

Dems would be foolish to allow this to go any further.

13. not by his staff
Nor it seems on ANYONE'S staff. There seems a crying need in Congress as a whole and the party in particular for much better reliance on new technological savvy and common sense. Bev has been pounding the pavement to the deaf and dumb for some time. I bet Gore can get it too. Why don't they have the really best and brightest on their staffs?

I love it so far though. Before this story gets up and walk it will have more research, more boady and brains than a thousand "16 word" stories and special commission reports.

And yet the party, I think, did a study on discrepancies in 2000 over many states. Then passed the ball to GOP voting machines and fell to bullying tactics for THEIR mode of implementation.
