Kerry, Good for Civil Liberties/Rights |
|
Edited on Mon Jul-14-03 09:39 AM by JHS
As President, Kerry will protect civil liberties and privacy rights. In particular, he is committed to appointing judges that will uphold these rights. In July 2003, Kerry told the Washington Post: “I think now there's that huge sense across this country that there's a breach at every level. People are angry about the invasion of their privacy. . . . The Patriot Act is perceived to be even more of breach -- and in fact it is. . . . And people are worried about their rights in America. People are worried about the Supreme Court.” Speaking about the judiciary at Drake Law School in March 2003, Kerry stated: "udges who respect human dignity, protect our rights and liberties, believe in genuine equality. Judges who know that "Equal Justice Under the Law" isn't just an inscription, it's a promise. That is a promise that all of you who are here tonight from first year law students to Supreme Court Justices believe in. That is the type of justice - and the type of Justices - that all Americans deserve." John Kerry will make sure we have a judiciary that works to protect and safeguard the rights of all Americans.

2. Bookmark This For People Who Complain He Voted For Patriot Act |

He has gone on the record many times blasting John Ashcroft as the worst foe of the Constitution since J. Edgar Hoover. We need to let people know where Kerry stands regarding civil liberty.

3. Check the record & policy statements of all the dems |
|
:) I agree that Kerry has the most detailed record and policy statements on most of the important issues, and they have all been held for a long time!!

Here is another position that demonstrates John Kerry’s strong support for civil liberties. Kerry is strongly opposed to racial profiling and is an original cosponsor of legislation to prohibit racial profiling and to establish remedies for its victims and provide funds for police training. He acknowledges that since September 11, 2001, it is even more important to end racial profiling to make sure that laws are enforced without discrimination.

5. I didn't know that he cosponsoered that. |
|
He's done so much to move progressive values into actual legislation that it really is hard to keep track.

I really, really like Kerry. He's my choice so far, but if Clark declares I think I may change to him. Maybe a Clark/Kerry ticket would be my dream.
