Debate time for Edwards: 6 answers, 6 min 55 sec in 1hr 25min 55sec debate
And didn't do the times for anyone else.

I only counted the time that they were talking.

0:08:35 to 0:09:35 =0:01:00
0:09:52 to 0:10:48 =0:00:56
0:32:29 to 0:34:06 =0:01:37
0:51:15 to 0:52:22 =0:01:07
0:59:03 to 1:00:38 =0:01:35
1:22:53 to 1:23:33 =0:00:40

total 0:06:55

1. What's your point?
7 minutes. 9 Candidates. Add in moderator time, seems reasonable.

3. Last debate, I posted a thread saying we should each track the candidate's
talking time and see if there's a pattern.

Many people agreed to do it, including me. So I'm just keeping up my end of the bargain.

I invite others to post the times for the other candidates.

8. Except they didn't all get 7 mins.,
Including your guy. By my count Clark only had about 5 minutes total as well as Sharpton and CMB. Kucinich had the least amount of time with less than 4 minutes. Kerry had the most with around 8 minutes.

2. AP - this is no flame.
Ive watched you on the board for a longtime, and just wanted to say I think you are a credit to John Edwards. I like your enthusiasm.

I am beginning to wonder if you are a Edwards family member though...

Just kidding. I am an Edwards fan (but Kerry is my guy).
:-)

I dont mind him one bit AP, I think now hes tied for 2nd with Kerry. Our two guys have more than common than I intially thought, Edwards fights the corporations just as well.

5. That's probably about right
9 candidates times almost 7 minutes per would be 63 minutes out of a total of 85, throw out the endless ranting of the commentators, etc, and each one probably had close to the same amount of time...

7. Nope. Kucinich was under 4 minutes total talking time.
Sharpton got in a little more than Kucinich, along with CMB.(around 5 mins each) I didn't have a stop-watch so I'm likely off a bit, but not by much.

15. The Kucinich campaign put out a total tally
posted by someone else downthread. I went out and bought a stop-watch today just so I could do this for the campaign's information, so I'll also post them here for the next debate.

Just FTR, I thought the overall winner of last night's debate was John Edwards, hands down. He just connected with the audience in a way I usually see my man Kucinich do in other situations.

6. It seemed like he had
about the same amount of time as everyone else. Seemed like I heard Sharpton the least but maybe that was me.

9. Lieberman
It seems he had too much time! Judy kept saying, "Senator...Senator...Senator," yet on and on he went!

It probably just seemed like he was being a hog.

10. On Woodhead interrupting...
Presuming they only had a minute to respond, she only would have had the right to interrupt him twice.

Anyway, I think the universal conclusion was that Woodruff was interrupting EVERYONE.

16. I thought Lieberman did well last night.
He said some really impressive things, including the assertion he'd support any of the other 8 against Bush, and he refused to let that twit Woodruff cut him off before he was finished. I wish Dennis had been as determined when she moved on from the $87 Billion challenge, or when Clark made his remark about nobody in Washington showing leadership...

"But I'd like to ask all those who are(in Washington) -- let's see some leadership in the United States Congress. Let's see you take apart that doctrine of preemption now."

13. Just got this press release from DK's campaign...
And I think it says A LOT about how "equal" everyone's coverage was:

========================================================
How Many Minutes Each Candidate Received

For Immediate Release: October 10, 2003

CNN’s Democratic presidential candidates’ debate last night was held with the stated intention of providing the candidates equal time. According to the Hotline (National Journal), here are the results:

Candidate Amount Of Talk Time During the Debate

Dean 14 min 07 seconds

Kerry 12 min 31 seconds

Clark 10 min 36 seconds

Gephardt 10 min 02 seconds

Lieberman 9 min 26 seconds

Braun 8 min 39 seconds

Sharpton 8 min 28 seconds

Edwards 8 min 00 seconds

Kucinich 5 min 09 seconds

At the debate, Congressman Kucinich stood out, expressing some of the
clearest and sharpest distinctions between himself and other candidates, and receiving applause for his comments. It is safe to assume that his impact would have been even greater had he been given more than 36 percent of the time given to Gov. Dean.

Kucinich pointed out that he is the only candidate who voted against the War on Iraq one year ago today.

Kucinich challenged the other candidates to oppose spending another $87 billion on the U.S. occupation of Iraq, and no one accepted the challenge.

Kucinich advocated creating a cabinet-level Department of Peace to promote nonviolence in domestic and international affairs and to make war archaic.

Kucinich presented the outlines of a plan he has just released to bring US troops home from Iraq, end the war profiteering, and allow the United Nations to facilitate Iraqi self-governance.
