Is Kerry Brutus and Dean Mark Antony?
Just an idle thought I had, and it may or may not work out ultimately. But I thought it was an interesting comparison, not in terms of the actual plot of Julius Caesar, but their styles/characters.

I wonder if Dean supporters and Kerry supporters break along the lines of people who like Mark Antony's emotional style over Brutus's more classic senatorial style. I always thought of Brutus as one of the great Shakespearean heroes along the lines of Hamlet and Macbeth, and Mark Antony was a demagogue defending a future tyrant. But Shakespeare being Shakespeare, there are many ways to see the characters, and I'm sure that many people find Mark Antony more compelling (especially when it's Marlon Brando).

Bush is obviously Caesar (minus the charisma), but I wouldn't exactly think Dean would be slipping the dogs of war on his behalf.;-)

Let me know what you think.

Note: This is not some sort of twisted bash. I'm just wondering how people end up dividing along the Brutus/Mark Antony lines. And considering the play is just about unavoidable in high school, I'm assuming most people have read it.

1. The "Relevant" Era
That's when I went to high school. I got to read Airport and make poetry pillows and write short stories. Sorry, no comparisons from me!

Not that I don't regularly present twisted bashes of your candidate.

I don't say anything I can't back up. But nice of you to take a friendly thread down that road.

20. I Know You're Not Referring To The Line Dean Lifted
"We should be proud: Not since the age of the Romans have one people achieved such preeminence.

But we are not Romans; we do not seek an empire. We are Americans, trustees of a vision and a heritage that commit us to the values of democracy and the universal cause of human rights. So while we can be proud, we must be purposeful and mindful of our principles: And we must be patient - aware that there is no such thing as the end of history." - John Kerry 1/23/03

31. Who picked up the mantle of the Brothers Gracchi?
No one, not even their enemies could lift their weight. Marus? No. Sullus. No. The two later opponents seem mere crooks, abusing power and leading Rome into the spiritual darkness of despotic empire.

In our time, besides Ted Kennedy, who has picked up the mantle of the Kennedy Brothers? Perhaps Sen. Kerry can undo the repeating of history. I believe he can and must.
