Dean Supporters - Have you tried the letter writing tool?
In the last week, 10,000 letters have been written to Iowans (and I think Granite Staters). Have any of you written letters at meet-ups? I am having writers block and I would love to brain storm with other Deaniacs on this letter writing project.

If you don't know what I am talking about - go here http://letters.deanforamerica.com/main.php

We have 85 days til the Iowa caucus, so anyone with some spare time, these letters help a lot.

1. Well,
I got my list of Iowans to write, which I took with me to work. In between answering phones and doing paperwork, I wrote out ten different letters. I didn't use the sample letter, but spoke from my heart. Basically, this is what I said in the different letters:

Iowans are lucky because they get to vote when it counts (my state has a late primary after these things are decided)

Bush is ruining the country and must be stopped.

Dean is the man to do this.

He has inspired the grassroots with his online appeal (some letters I put in that my husband was inspired for the first time in his life to contribute to a political campaign).

He has experience at the executive level and has shown that he can craft legislation that can pass.

His health care program makes sense, even to my doctor (who is a Republican who hates Bush).

His Success by Six makes sense to this retired teacher-gave some reasons why

His desire to balance the budget appeals to swing voters I've talked to.

Like I said, my letters were all different, and I'm sure it was only letter ten that got all these points in. My hand was sore at the end of the day, but I felt it was well worth it-a lot more productive than playing computer solitaire while waiting for incoming calls!

2. Thanks! Great ideas!
I guess what is putting me off is that I am writing to a total stranger, and worried about offending them, by saying things like shrub is ruining our country (even though it I feel taht way).

3. I started with a sample letter
and made it my own. I couldn't figure out how to start my letter, so looked at one of the samples provided to get some ideas. I changed some stuff, and found that when I actually sat down to hand write my letters, once I had a beginning then more of my own ideas began to flow. My letters ended up being about 3 pages long...I had more to say than I expected! I will be writing more today, now that I've gotten into the swing of it.

I have to admit, these are probably the first letters I've hand-written in several years. I'd love to get a hand-written letter in the mail...it's so rare these days!
