is supposed to be a random sample which represents the population. This is a 'poll' where people choose to participate and don't even have to be readers of the Army Times (I just came back from their link and I could have voted despite not ever having read that paper nor being in the military). That is the definition of a voodoo poll.

and thus not a poll. The word poll has a specific definition and we have to stop letting language be bastardized. I will conceed these can be interesting but they aren't in any way, shape, or form accurate.

In the early stages the Dean supporters were gung ho and his support in these popularity contests was very high. Now it's the Clark supporters who are excited and driving his numbers higher than realistic.
