Is Kerry going hunting?
He bought a hunting license today:

Presidential candidate John Kerry said he wants to fight for more jobs in America.

Thursday morning Kerry spoke at TEC Industrial in Davenport, which repairs electrical motors.

Kerry said since the Bush Administration began, millions of manufacturing jobs have been lost. However, if Kerry were to be elected he promised more help for middle America.

"By helping people hold on to more of their tax money; that's what we have to do protect the middle class ... roll back the high-end tax-cuts of the Bush Administration that help the wealthy and invest in education and health care." Kerry said.

The Massachusetts Senator also proposed a new jobs tax credit to encourage companies to expand. After his stop in Davenport, Kerry traveled to Muscatine where he bought a hunting license.

4. and has he actually bagged anything.
I knew a group of hunters whose soul purpose in going hunting was to get out of the house away from the wives. They never shot at anything, just drank coffee at the camp, played cards at night, and in general just hung out. They'd do this for about four days every fall.

Then there'd be the types who get the license and never use it.

If Kerry bagged an elk I'd be impressed. It would almost make me vote for him. And I'm not talking about a tour guided hunt where some farmer has a herd of elk on his property, I'm talking about going out and wading through waist deep icy cold water at dawn in hopes of getting a sight of the prey.

5. You mean like he did in Vietnam, where sometimes THEY were the prey?
Kerry is a longtime hunter.

6. It sounds like you think you know the answer.
Do you? Are you trying to imply something? What? What is your basis for that implication?

9. just asking

"(The Wash Post) reported that Kerry highlighted his interest in the hunting of mourning doves - an unusual activity to draw out at this stage of the campaign, given that dove hunting is illegal and enormously unpopular in both Iowa and New Hampshire, especially among Democratic activists."

I wonder what kind of animal he's going to hunt in Iowa, seeing as how doves are off the menu? (so to speak)

Clearly you are trying to imply something. Deny it if you want.

BTW, here is the other info about Kerry from the link you provided.

In terms of past performance on animal issues, three of the eight candidates have particularly distinguished records: Senators John Kerry of Massachusetts and Joe Lieberman of Connecticut and Representative Dennis Kucinich of Ohio. Each of these men has compiled consistently excellent voting records on animal issues in the Congress in recent years. More than that, these individuals have emerged as animal protection leaders, instigating and organizing efforts to achieve reforms for animals.

Senator Kerry was the co-author with former Senator Bob Smith (R-NH) of the successful effort to halt an annual $2 million subsidy for the mink industry - terminating a taxpayer give-away to the corporate mink industry. Kerry and Smith shepherded this amendment through the Senate during debate on the Fiscal Year 1995 Agriculture Appropriations Act, and they have repelled subsequent efforts by legislators aligned with the mink industry to revive the taxpayer boondoggle. Kerry has also been the co-author, with Senator Rick Santorum (R-PA), of letters in recent years sent to the leaders of the Senate Subcommittee on Agriculture Appropriations to increase funding for existing animal protection laws, including the Animal Welfare Act and the Humane Slaughter Act. Thanks in part to his leadership - and collaborating with the powerful senior member of the Appropriations Committee, Robert C. Byrd -- the Congress has provided more than $26 million in new funds for animal protection programs in recent years. Kerry has cosponsored almost every piece of animal protection legislation - including measures to combat cockfighting, bear baiting, canned hunts, puppy mills, the bear parts trade, the exotic pet trade, steel-jawed leghold traps, and the abuse of "downed" livestock - introduced on behalf of animals.

And here is the Washington Post article:
John Kerry eats dove. Even better, he shoots them. From behind the stalks of a Southern cornfield, he'll watch them flutter and dart, and fire.

"You clean them. Let them hang. It takes three or four birds to have a meal," said the Massachusetts senator. "You might eat it at a picnic, cold roasted. I love dove."

Dove, quail, duck, deer. Kerry described how to hunt and gut them, talking as he sliced through a steak at midnight after campaigning all day in Iowa for the Democratic presidential nomination. Carve out the heart, he said over dinner, pull out the entrails and cut up the meat.

14. This issue bothers me

On one hand Kerry sponsors some great legislation, but then is callous in how he talks about his hunting exploits.

I don't get it.

16. Kerry was talking to other hunters. The reporter was listening in
on the conversation. That's what hunter's talk like when they are together.

19. I Must Admit
I'm not crazy about hunting. I'm happy he's not shooting people, but I always thought that animal photography was a more noble aim. Must be my bleeding heart.

My honest take is that Kerry is not taking precious time out of his schedule because of a burning need to kill fluffy animals. I imagine that he is sending a distinct signal to gun owners that his fantastic record on gun control is not going to take away their little pop gun collections.

So, in the end, I would rather him try to kill a bird or two and pass excellent legislation than let a NRA man get the nomination. Must be my pragmatic heart.
