I Knew Kerry Hunted, But I Didn't Think He Was Actually Good At It!

He looks (shockingly) natural doing this!

Don't you have to aim and stuff?

Democratic presidential hopeful Sen. John Kerry, left, inspects a pheasant with Ryan McKiney, right, after Kerry shot the bird near Colo, Iowa.

You mean he actually hit the thing!?! I'm not even sure how I feel about that!

1. I would hope he has some experience with guns....
Edited on Fri Oct-31-03 09:46 PM by Rowdyboy
Considering his experience in Vietnam...

He's a class act. If he isn't the nominee, I hope he stays in the senate for a LONG time.

17. That's exactly how I feel, Rowdyboy.
Despite the Kerry supporters on DU who, with IMHO seemingly few exceptions, spend most of their time here bashing Dean.

Shotgun in Hand, Kerry Defines His Gun-Control Stance

By DAVID M. HALBFINGER

Published: November 1, 2003

COLO, Iowa, Oct. 31 — Senator John Kerry blasted away at Howard Dean on Friday, accusing him of currying favor with the National Rifle Association and opposing an assault-weapons ban that Mr. Kerry and other supporters of gun control fought for in the 1990's.

Then Mr. Kerry took his 12-gauge shotgun and blew two pheasants out of the sky in two shots.

Mr. Kerry, the Massachusetts Democrat running for president, has been an off-again-on-again hunter since the age of 12. He arrived at lunchtime for a long-planned pheasant shoot here on the cold plains of central Iowa.

to the charge that Kerry is a 'poser'.

But gee maybe in addition to the 'Crossroads' style guitar jam-off suggested on DU awhile back, Kerry and Dean can have a shootout for the nomination lol

You don't exactly "pose" when you're birdhunting.

But, I guess you have to push that meme whenever you can. It's much better than relying on the truth, eh?

and shoot on a turn if you have to. Something only crack shots can do.

So, what's so shameless about being a crack shot?

29. That's
not a very fair comment either. While a hunting montage would not be my way of putting Kerry in the best light, I think it's good for supporters to get to see their candidate as a human, rather than merely as a campaigner.

34. from the article:
Edited on Sat Nov-01-03 10:18 PM by Romulus
"I believe in the Second Amendment in this country," Mr. Kerry continued. "But I don't believe that assault weapons ought to be sold in the streets of America. Never believed it, don't believe it now."

Maybe Kerry ought to read the *od damn Second Amendment to the Constitution of the United States:

A Well Regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.

The 2d Amend has jack shit to do with pheasant hunting with a $1000 shot gun. All real assault weapons (like bona-fide full-auto AK-47's - not the rifles that merely look like AK-47's), and the owners of those weapons, are registered with BATFE. The only criminal act committed with one of those BATFE-registered weapons was when a NJ SWAT officer flipped out and used his HK-MP5 duty submachine gun to kill his next door neighbor. What more regulation of those assault weapons (of which Kerry must be speaking, or else he is showing is ignorance) is therefore needed to keep them from being misused in "gun violence?"

Edited to add:

As I said in that other thread: I like Kerry, and after listening to him on NPR a few months back I think I agree with more of his positions than any other candidate. But this gun this is killing me -and who knows how many others.
