Brace Yourselves ...This Week's Gonna Be Messy |
|
Though all the races are tight, chances are that the Republicans will win all 3 of the governor's races on Tuesday. The media will likely ignore the fact that these are all conservative states that lean (ok, decisively TILT) Republican ANYWAY and we'll have a week or two of articles in the papers, and newsmagazines, plus TV analyses by pundits and talking heads on all the cable networks of how this is "an affirmation of the public's support for Bush" and a sign of "continuing Democratic weakness" w/ lots of other features like "are the Democrats dead?" and "Can the Democrats rise again?" not to mention the inevitable articles proclaiming that Bush is now favored to win reelection.
I hope not, but I know better.

All Democrats need is a split to say they held their own, and of course they must win Philadelphia.

I expect this too, but it isn't important. There is always political chatter going on. I would treat this type of news coverage the same way I brace myself for the latest bulletins about the Kobe case or the Peterson trial, that is, with a yawn.
