Dean overwhelmingly wins SEIU straw poll in New Hampshire

The SEIU (Service Employees International Union) has 8,000 members in New Hampshire and this weekend was their state convention. Gov. Dean won a straw poll conducted at this convention. Here are the results:

Dean: 65 votes
Gephardt: 20 votes
Bush: 9 votes
Kerry: 7 votes
Edwards 5 votes
Clark 4 votes
Lieberman 2 votes
Kucinich 1 vote
Shaprton 1 vote
Undecided 2 votes

The NH SEIU is expected to make an endorsement later this year, and also the national SEIU (with 1.3 million members) will either endorse Howard Dean next week or they will endorse nobody.

anti-Dean people have been predicting he will sink for months and he keeps going on. By saying that he wants votes from people who drive pickups with confederate flags on it he is pointing out that the democrats have a huge problem in rural and southern states which is a truth. He's not saying he supports the confederate flag--he is trying to tell "Joe Six-pack" that there is another party which doesn't feed into racial polarization like the Bush Republicans but offers opportunities for all as far as healthcare, education, and jobs. He has said quite clearly that he is going to campaign in the south the same as he does in the north--talking about jobs, opportunity, education, health care, ect and if he can't win white southern democrats over that way he probably never will.

His opponents will try and make hay out of this comment but it will not have legs.
