Does Zell have a cabinet post in mind??
Edited on Sun Nov-02-03 12:08 AM by burr
Zell wouldn't help anyone unless he thought it would help him in some way FIRST. He helped Bill Clinton become President...not because he loved his country, or loved his state, but because it would make his job as Governor easier. And when the nation has a responsible President, all the Governors can do better governing fiscally, economically, and politically. And Zell Miller knows that without Bill Clinton as President, he would have never been re-elected Governor in 1994.

When the death of Paul Coverdell occurred, Zell again saw his appointment as an opportunity to meet his own needs. He supported the interests of the corporate boards he sat on to enrich himself, and he distanced himself from Al Gore because it was no longer in his interest to support a Democrat in the White House.

After the selection of shrub as President, Zell began helping the Republicans in everyway he could. He supported Bill Pryor to the federal appeals court, even though most Democrats opposed him. He enthusiastically backed all shrub's policies from taxcuts to record deficit spending, a policy he blasted in the nineties. And he also supported drilling on the Alaskian lands, as well as the IWR. However, Zell has always been an egotist...

But Zell is planning to campaign for shrub because in his words..."he is the right man at the right time." What is Zell expecting back in return, and is he realistic to believe he will get it?

8. wouldn't surprise me
he's burned too many bridges with the Democrats so it's in his best interest to root for Bush. Maybe he'll get a position as secretary of Education. It's too bad he's whoring out for the side that'll lose in 2004.

11. Amen!
This makes me even more likely to go door to door for the Democratic nominee. Just to make Zell eat his endorsement, this will make him even more of a political anachronism. Zell has always dreamed of being center stage. And any politician who has dared to stand between Zell and this insane dream becomes Zell's target. First it was Herman Talmadge, if Talmadge had been a liberal...Zell would have run a conservative campaign. But out of the four major candidates running in that primary, three were running from the right...so it was in Zell's best interest to run from the left! But instead of winning the Senate, Zell nearly destroyed himself and the state party. Zell's slogan in that primary campaign "The Best Senator Money Can't Buy", should now be "The Best Senator Money Can Buy..."

And then there has been Zell's attempts to roll over Georgia Speaker Tom Murphy, as if he was not a participant in the democratic process.
"1979-Miller called Murphy a liar and two days later apologized. Governor Busbee got them togethers, but only to pose for a gag photograph of them smoking a peace pipe.
At Miller's birthday, state senators gave him a horse trailer and state Sen. Culver Kidd suggested it 'would be suitable for hauling a pair of jackasses, which Miller and Murphy have resembled at times during the session.'
1986-Murphy on Miller 'I ain't near as happy to be here as Zell is. He's smarter than I am and there are very few things he's said that I agree with.'
1987-As the Speaker of the House introduced Miller at his inauguration, he drew a laugh when he presented him as 'the past, present, and future lieutenant governor of Georgia."

In summary...Zell has already stated in the most articulate way what is right with the Democratic party, and wrong with supporting shrub. "I made it because Franklin Delano Roosevelt energized this nation. I made it because Harry Truman fought for working families like mine. I made it because John Kennedy's rising tide lifted even our tiny boat. I made it because Lyndon Johnson showed America that people who were born poor didn't have to die poor. And I made it because a man named Jimmy Carter-brought honesty and decency and integrity to public service.

But what of the kids of today? Who fights for the child of the single mother today? Because without a government that is on their side, those children have no hope. And when a child has no hope, a nation has no future.

I am a Democrat because we are the party of hope. For 12 dark years Republicans have dealt in cynicism and skepticism. They've mastered the art of division and diversion, and they have robbed us of our hope. Too many mothers today cannot tell their children what my mother told me-that working hard and playing by the rules can make your dreams come true."

12. Zell doesn't like Washington....he loves it!
Now Zell could perhaps cut some deals for his contributers as the Secretary of Commerce, Secretary of Labor, or even better..wouldn't he be a great Secretary of Interior? :smoke:
