6. Kerry's support is off the chart
Former Vermont governor Howard Dean leads the field with 16 percent of the vote, followed by Rep. Richard A. Gephardt (13 percent), Sen. Joseph I. Lieberman (13 percent) and retired Gen. Wesley K. Clark (12 percent). No other candidate gets more than 10 percent of the vote.

5. Let's just shut up people
He's just posting some positive information about Kerry.

It's about time we get some of that here instead of having negative, reactionary threads.

Big surprise that Dean comes in last here. Don't think that won't be on New Hapshire's mind as the primary draws close.

14. President Dukakis of Massachusetts Was Up 17 Points
And that was three months before the 1988 election.

Seriously, congratulations to John Kerry. He got the the top number in the WaPo. Last time (Zogby) it was Dean, then before that it was Clark. All within the margin of error, of course, and 12 months before the general election.

18. No the last Zogby Poll showed Kerry doing best against Bush too
The president would outpoll any of the current leading Democratic contenders if the election were held today. He would earn 46% of the vote against retired General Wesley Clark’s 37%; would beat former Vermont Governor Dr. Howard Dean, 47% - 39%; would poll 45% against Massachusetts Senator John Kerry’s 41%; would win over Missouri Congressman Richard Gephardt 47% - 38%, and would beat Connecticut Senator Joseph Lieberman, 46% - 38%.

27. You just listed all the sensational media headlines
These stories for the most part were about the candidates taking each other on, on the issues. They sell papers with those headlines. Everyone knows about how a paper works.

23. The same posters who originally opposed Dean when he was at 1%
will be surprised if Kerry is nominated and THEN loses...and on we go.

Lack of political depth and lack of understanding of the ever moving political landscape was why they DID NOT SEE Dean in Jan. '03 as The New Democratic Leader of The NEW Democratic Party. Dean's candidacy HAS YET TO REALLY TAKE OFF.

As a Dean supporter since he was at 1% I would have considered a 'within 15 pts.' of the leader in Iowa as a huge win for Dean. Given his 'unknown' #'s and current position this campaign has no precedent in political history and no 'comparative study' is sufficient to explain his meteoritic rise.

The simple fact is that Dean is the far superior candidate and no one has emerged to challenge him. With MANY candidates at this point he continues to shine. When the media HAS to cover him it will be incredible to watch. Bush should be fitted for armor now!!!!

Dean '04...America's Leader

24. it just goes to show
that even with the corporate right wing media pushing Dean, people still know who the electable Democrats are.

Kerry gets zero coverage and still does BETTER than Dean against Bush in every poll I've seen. I don't believe Dean has ever come out ahead of Kerry in these polls vs Bush. In fact Dean is usually at the bottom of the pack, with Clark, Gep and even Holy Joe doing better against Bush.

26. Then why don't more people support him for the nom?
These polls are so wacky.

Right now, those head-to-head numbers show ALL of our candidates losing, which is annoying. Lieberman and Kerry come closest, with a 6-7% spread, but still losing. Are people who vote in this part of the poll just supporting their own candidates? Does this mean that there are people who would vote for Bush over Dean if Dean were the nominee instead of Kerry or Lieberman? That's just crazy, and I don't see that happening. People cannot be that stupid.

I do take heart in that first graphic that shows us within the MOE of beating Bush with any Democrat.
