Kerry, Gephardt, Edwards Gang Up on Dean
WASHINGTON -- In a rare alliance, strategists for John Edwards, Dick Gephardt and John Kerry discussed whether they could stop the Service Employees International Union from endorsing fellow Democratic presidential candidate Howard Dean.

The union, the largest in the AFL-CIO with 1.6 million members, announced last week that its 63-member board would decide Thursday whether to endorse the former Vermont governor. "It's Dean or one," said SEIU spokeswoman Sara Howard.

The announcement prompted top aides to Edwards, Gephardt and Kerry to convene a conference call during which they discussed whether Dean's endorsement could be blocked.

"No matter how much people might disdain their tactics of working together on this, it does point out how important this endorsement will be," said Dean campaign manager Joe Trippi.

2. yup
I may be reading too much into Trippi's comment, but it sounds like the endorsement is already in the bag.

…it does point out how important this endorsement will be

4. LOL...that's pathetic
They have to form an alliance because none of them can take him out on their own? I don't think Dean has the endorsement in the bag yet but this will make it so much sweeter if he does get it.

5. Dean or no one...
Appears Bush Lite and his back up band are working real hard for no one. How would you put that? I realize you don't want me, and you do want the other guy, but I would really, really, really appreciate it if you kept it under your hat for a while, so I can get the job instead of your guy, OK? OK? It will be interesting to see if between the three of them they have enough clout to pull it off. My money's on Dean too.

6. Is this story a "leak" or a "plant?"
And what is the payoff? How does this break in a positve way for anyone but Dean and SEIU?

8. If it takes 3 candidates to work together to just try to stop Dean
How can anyone doubt that Dean will be the toughest challenge for Bush? I don't mind Edwards and would love to see him as Attorney General in a Dean presidency, so I'm not trying to slam him at all. At the same time, this is just pathetic and sad. It's mostly Kerry and Gephardt doing this, and it's very telling. If the rest of the top tier can't catch Dean how in God's name are they EVER going to be able to beat Bush? The 2004 presidential election is not a goddamned WWF tag team pay per view event. What on earth are these idiots thinking? Are they purposely undermining their validity as candidates or are they just too stupid to see just how pathetic this looks? What wimps.

9. Yeah 3 vs. Dean
but watch out for the old man of Connecticut, his tactics of being silently and watching and throwing in his 2 cents every so often is giving me the willies.

10. Oh, nothing is going to stop Dean now
They could have maybe stopped him before the ending of the second quarter if they had any inkling of how fierce of a campaigner he is. They thought they could just meander along and then kick into higer gear and "catch up". They should have looked into Dean's campaigning style because they would have realized that you can't let Dean get ahead at all, because once he kicks it up even more and more all the way through. Kerry may "pace himself", but so does Dean...he starts off sprinting, picks up speed all the way along the trail and kicks into overdrive the second he sees the finish line. Dean is going to be the nominee, and all the others are doing now are hurting the Democratic party by trying to divide, play to fear and partake in race baiting. But hey, Dean is just proving he can weather GOP tactics (since that IS what his opponents are using) and keep gaining steam.

15. Okay, my friends, please notice...
whose name is not included in this trash. I hope and pray my guy will continue to stay above this kind of coalition "Anybody But Dean" crap.. Its beneath the dignity of serious candidates and ALWAYS backfires.

Just to note, my candidate also did not choose to pile on over the "confederate flag" crap. He issued the most sensitive statement of the bunch and then shut up about it.

I really like and respect Howard Dean, but my man Wesley is a serious class act.

I'm a Dean supporter but I have to say that Wesley Clark is a class act!:toast:

He is above the fray, so to speak, and that says volumes about Clark.

If Kerry or Edwards or Gephardt were going to get the endorsement, do you think Dean wouldn't be working his ass off to block it? Really.

23. Show me some precedent where is has tried to block any
endorsement for another candidate, other than trying to earn it himself, and I'll take a closer look at your case.

Show me where Dean has teamed up with another campaign to attack another candidate. We've seen Kerry/Geppy team up before. And now we have Kerry/Geppy/Edwards. It would appear that Kerry just can't get it done on his own. I hope you're brimming with pride.

Race-baiting. From Democrats. Disgusting.
