Lawrence is a city adjacent to Indianapolis, and it is also where I currently live. Last night Lawrence elected the first woman, and the first Democrat, to the mayoral office.
BTW, Cantwell is also a former firefighter.

Lawrence voters Tuesday night elected Deborah Cantwell as the first Democratic mayor in the city's history as they rejected Republican Mayor Tom Schneider's bid for a fifth four-year term.
Responding positively to Cantwell's campaign theme, "It's time for a change," voters also elected Democrats to the City Council for the first time in more than 30 years.
In unofficial results, Democrats Celeste Jaffee, Linda K. Treat and Robyn W. Jarrell won seats on the nine-member City Council.
"I'm pretty excited," said Cantwell as she collected nearly 57 percent of the vote in her race against Schneider. Democrats felt the mayor was vulnerable after he collected fewer votes in the 34 Lawrence precincts than Democrat Frank Anderson in their 2002 race for Marion County sheriff won by Anderson.
