This is what I'm up against.
Edited on Thu Nov-06-03 01:36 PM by Whitacre D_WI

Jim "Tex" Sensenbrenner (far right, of course) with * at the signing of H.R. 3162, the so-called "PATRIOT Act."

Jim Senselessbrenner (third from the left, oddly enough) with * at the signing of the bill banning intact dilation-and-extraction (and, possibly, other types of abortion, even when the woman's health is at risk).

The Representative from Wisconsin's Fifth District seems to be everywhere these days. But he is ALWAYS present when our civil liberties are about to be violated. Whether it's a woman's right to choose or the right we ALL have to be free from unconstitutional searches and detainments that is being compromised, Jim is there. Whether it's a worker's right to overtime or a veteran's right to medical care that is being taken away, Jim is there.

When I am elected to Congress, I will also be there. But I will be there to stand up for the rights of women in this country. I will be there to stand up for the rights of workers and small business owners. I will be there to stand up for our veterans and service members. And I will be there to stand up for that most American of ideals, individual liberty.

As chairman of the House Judiciary committee, Jim Sensenbrenner's far-right agenda reaches down to all of us, not just those of us who live in Wisconsin. It's time for a change, but I can't do it alone.

Friends, it's time to renew Wisconsin's progressive spirit. In the spirit of Fighting Bob LaFollette, Bill Proxmire, and Russ Feingold, I ask you to help continue this tradition. Help send this progressive Wisconsinite to Washington.

on edit: pointed out just which of the white men in these pictures is Rep. Sensenbrenner.

1. Go Vince!
Bryan Kennedy, one of Vince's opponents, stopped in at the Milwaukee Dean meetup last night and gave a little spiel. Somebody asked how he differed from the other two candidates and he said it's because he's more moderate. He did say something that was heartening: that the redrawn boundaries of the district have brought in more Democratic voters in places like the North Shore and West Allis. Tip: some of the people there did not seem to understand who is now in the district. Those of us in the Milwaukee area should start educating people who now lie in the 5th District about this change so they will pay attention when they hear about Vince.

2. Hi, Dragonlady!
It's true that the new CD-5 has more Democratic voters than the old CD-9. It's still an uphill climb for any Democrat to win; but the only way any Democrat can take this district is by standing up and saying what needs to be said. I'm willing to do that, and that's why I think I'm the candidate who will return Jim Sensenbrenner to a life of leisure back in Chenequa.

3. More moderate than Kohlenberg?
Edited on Thu Nov-06-03 03:18 PM by eyesroll
Oookay.

I couldn't make it to the Meetup, DL. Hope it went well.
Vince came to one of the Ale House ones, a few months back, but it was too packed for a spiel.

Edit: Well, I guess if BK's thinking about "moderate" from the other side...Kohlenberg is a supply-side conservative...

5. A D&X
Bless you sir! Using that instead of made up medical terminology would win my vote (except I'm not there!). Keep telling the truth on that, people have to understand there's pure medical reasons to need abortions and we've been ignoring that.

People want all of the things you're talking about, but don't forget they want security too!

7. Thanks for all the support!
And thanks to Retrolounge for pointing out the BBV situation in Madison. I'll have to talk to Senator Plale about that.
