Just had to post this wonderful quote from Dennis Kucinich...
"I was one of those kids who believed that I could follow a dream and be anything I wanted to be and I believed that when I had my nose pressed against the inside window of a car that was parked outside a steel mill at night, and that's where we slept, in the car."

Thank you, Dennis.

Dennis is so important to have in the party whether he wins the nomination or not.

The quote is from today's Chicago Tribune and their profile of Dennis. The article itself leans a bit to the negative with the headline "The combative mystic"...but I do love the quote which is excerpted and highlighted.

1. Thank you for posting this. I believe that, though he

may not be the best candidate, Dennis is the best person in the race.

2. Well said DemBones
Your comment is so true. I think the two most decent people in the race were not meant to be our candidate, the other one being Bob Graham. I guess the old saying "nice guys finish last" applies to both these wonderful men.

3. In what way could he not be the best candidate, DB?
Do you only mean 'best by conventional standards', or what?

(I feel a little taken-aback, since I've always relied on the Tao's 'As honest words often do not sound fine, fine-sounding words are often not honest')

4. He's not the best for me...
Because Dennis leans to the idealistic side of things...and I think I lead more to the pragmatic side.

In my estimation, neither is bad...both can be very good, but that's why he's not the best candidate for me.

I do believe he's a very very good and important candidate. I don't want him to leave the race early.

17. How is Dennis less pragmatic
than the so called electable candidates? Honestly, I think he is the only one who is offering practical solutions. It is possible to be both idealistic and pragmatic at the same time. I haven't noticed much idealism, other than stale platitudes, coming from the other candidates.

23. Well...
I think that you have issues with him because you "too-embedded" with your candidate.
My only reason why I DK is not the front-runner in my book is he wants to leave the WTO and NAFTA with no negotiations with anyone. If he states that he would talk to everyone for at least one year--bam--DK gets my vote at the primaries.
Yes I think Nafta would not be a very bad thing; but leaving WTO would be extremely bad.

26. He'd still negotiate
True, he wants us to leave the WTO and NAFTA, but we would replace the agreements we had with those member countries with bilateral agreements, negotiated on a country-by-country basis.

The WTO just recently ruled that the EU can impose massive sanctions on US steel because we've put up temporary tariffs to protect our native steel industry from predatory pricing by other countries. This will inevitably lead to more job loss in the US, as US steel will be much more expensive in the EU (and probably elsewhere, too).

NAFTA and the WTO were founded by the unelected business interests of the world to enforce their top-down autocratic rule on the rest of us, who have no voice or choice in determining our destinies. This same type of rule caused us to have a revolution a couple hundred years ago-- it's truly amazing how we can allow that to happen now without so much as a vote.

I mean like Ive seen some people jump on him as of late from other camps. keep it up. Also we are all idealists and pragamatists in some form or another, thats just my philosophical opinion.

8. Thanks for posting that, helleborient.
And ... I don't know why ... perhaps it's the 'who want's to be a first lady' type stuff going around now... but please indulge me while I share a bit of my teenybopper stuff. :)

The more I learn about Kucinich, the more unbelievably awesome I think he is. He's overcome adversity, has a beautiful heart, is a fabulous idealist, and ... he's funny, too!

DK just totally, flat out ROCKS - in every way possible! :7

I love this smile!

Not the best pic to capture his smile, but I love the reference to the "Peace Protecting Genius" statue.

Thanks again hell, Ive seen a lot of Kucinich bashing as of late and I will be honest, it pisses me off, and its about the stupidest things generally too, his looks for instance.

13. I think diamondsoul thinks hes cute too
No opinion on his looks really, I could care less, now his daughter is a cutie. Also other than his views on the issues and appealing to the heart of me, the neatest thing about him is his ethnic heritage to me, "Kucinich" is a Croatian name and I am from a country near there on my mom's side, plus hes Irish as well. South Slav Irish :D coolness, and I am also Slovak and German but hes not but still very cool. I feel like an Irish Catholic in 1960 with JFK.

19. I agree with you, in a big way!
My daughter tells me "You're sick, Mom!", but she's only 12, she'll devlop some sense about these things as she gets older. *LOL*

Seriously, the more I see of him the more attractive I think he is. There isn't much I don't like about him to be honest. I enjoy listening to him talk because I like the tone of his voice. I like to watch him because he's got a very expressive face, and I like what he says because it's honest and true.

As far as the looks, his eyes are just unbelievably warm! His smile lights his whole face, and I've always found that attractive.

I looked at a picture of him as a boy, and was stunned to discover he looked almost exactly like my very first boyfriend. He's not a boy anymore, and people age. I think he's aging very well. He doesn't look 57 to me. Granted he doesn't look as young as John Edwards, but he doesn't look 57. The hair....everybody gripes about the hair.... :eyes: The hair I think just makes him more human in my eyes. That one little flawed attribute that he can't control.*LOL*

16. DK
I just got back from Bellingham Wa where Dennis was today. I got to sit in front in a section reserved for Vets for Peace which I am a member. Western Washington University. Packed and overflowing. I have never been so inspired with hope, even though I know the odds. I got to shake his hand.

25. His idea of a Dept. of Peace is an awesome idea....
and most of the rest of his platform(my disagreement is on another thread on this line).
He is a scrappy fighter and I like that in a politican. Unlike other politicans--I truly think that DK has not be "tarnished" by a long life in politics.
