"The other candidates are floundering around..."

Excellent! They're catching on in England, now. :)

Spectre of Vietnam looms over Iraq

Call for withdrawal

The only one of them to vote against the congressional resolution approving the war, Ohio Representative Dennis Kucinich, has called for withdrawal.

"This disastrous mission must be ended before any more lives are lost... it is time to bring our troops home," he said.

The other candidates are floundering around, criticising the administration without daring to call for withdrawal.

Former Nato commander Wesley Clark said: "We were misled into this conflict without a real strategy for success."

d'oh! edited to fix link

1. He's truly setting the tone
regardless of what the media spinmeisters and other campaigns are saying.

How would have Kerry and Gephardt voted if DK had not hammered on this issue in the debates?

It makes me wonder...

2. indeed
It has been amazing to watch the other candidates crib lines and positions directly from DK.

There was a time when only DK was openly criticizing WTO & NAFTA. Then suddenly Dean & Kerry started talking about trade conditioned on workers rights, human rights and the environment.

There was a time when only DK was criticizing the $87 billion appropriation. At one early debate he was the only one other than Sharpton to go on record against it. But then suddenly Kerry & Edwards were against the $87 billion. (Dean I'm not sure where he actually ended up on the issue since he tried to conflate tax cuts).

These are but two examples. The media ignores this function of his candidacy but it is undeniable DK's presence helps set the agenda. That is why his continued presence as a candidate through the convention is going to be very important in 2004.
