Kerry’s Latest Campaign Promise
At a town-hall style meeting Friday with around 150 students at Alvirne High School in Hudson, N.H., senior Kaylan Sweet grilled Kerry about why he and the others “didn’t really answer (questions) directly” during the debate.

Kerry immediately took the defensive, asking the student which questions he thought he didn’t answer. “I’ll tell you point-blank I believe I really answered every question directly,” Kerry said. “Remember my one about gays in the military? Remember my one about smoking pot? ... Tell me what question I didn’t answer,” he retorted. “You ask me any question you want to ask me, right now, and I’ll give you a direct answer.”

Sweet proceeded to tell Kerry that he was applying to Boston University and asked him about his plan to lower college education costs.

Kerry laid out his plan, which includes a tax credit, raising the amount of college grants available, and a program to pay students' college debts if they become employed in certain fields after graduation.

“And the final thing I’m gonna do is I’ll make a phone call to B.U., if you’re a good guy, and I’ll help you get in,” said Kerry.

For good measure, Sweet searched out the senator after the event and made sure he’d keep his promise. Kerry said, “Just get me your application and I’ll make the phone call.”

1. 'Special interest' Kerry, as always, circumvents the system...What about
the student who worked hard but didn't have this connection. Sad.

Dean ...Fair and Balanced...

2. lol...nice slam
Unfair, but nice.

Kerry is a congressman, he is used to doing favors for constituents.

4. As usual
The man could single-handedly bring peace to the planet and they'd complain that he forced people to live in peace. They want to hate Kerry, I have absolutely no idea why, but I do know they WANT to hate him.

13. That's not the only measure of hate you know
No, I'm talking about an absolute unreasonable stubbornness. Sometimes perfectly decent people end up being hated for no particular reason, kind of like Oscar de la Hoya.

Besides, I can't think of any Kerry supporter who won't vote for Dean. I've been really pissed at him, and I am absolutely livid over the campaign financing today, but I'll have a barf bag at my side and vote for him. The people who get up in arms and refuse to vote for a Dem are generally Kucinich people. That's fine, I understand that. But I've noticed that their views do sometimes get lumped in with Kerry/Dean supporter views.

6. I would have loved to not hate him
Edited on Sat Nov-08-03 08:18 PM by Egnever
Unfortunately his stance on the war and continually trying to excuse it made me dislike him.

His supporters constant attacks on Dean have made me verry negative towards him

And his recent twisting of deans statements on the confederate flag make me hate him.

He is politics as usual completely willing to say nothing and pretend it means something so that he cant be cornered later.

I watched a town meeting of his last night and had trouble not laughing out loud at his non comital responses to the questions asked of him.

Soon as it comes online on Cspan I will be sure to provide you with quotes of his vapid responses to legitimate questions from people in the room.

Its no wonder he is falling in the polls if that town meeting was any indication of his new comitment to straghtforward responses.

I will votew for him as the lesser of two evils if he gets the nod.

It will be my last vote as a dem though.

14. I saw it
He was stupendous!!! I watched it with my 26 year old son who had never seen one of these before and he just wondered how anybody could not see that John Kerry is such a remarkably principled human being and the obvious choice for the Presidency.

The truth is, Kerry dared to confront your view of the world and makes you question whether you're right. It's just possible there really are terrorists. And it's just possible that war is sometimes necessary. And it's just possible that your neat little package of America is to blame for everything isn't accurate. And that really scares the shit out of you.
