Hair cuts into Kerry's support
Edited on Sat Nov-08-03 04:24 PM by Feanorcurufinwe
Democratic senator needs to trim his long locks, some younger voters say

Is it John Kerry's Beatles-era haircut that doesn't appeal to students sporting today's shorter styles?

<snip>

"He's never been afraid to stand up for what he believes in," said Meininger, a 21-year-old senior majoring in history and political science.

Photographs on the wall showed Kerry with hair combed neatly over his ears. One showed him with John Lennon.

"I think that's just him. He's had long hair for a long time. That's who he is, and that's what's so great about John Kerry - he's not afraid to be himself," said Meininger, who has short hair.

"He does need a haircut," said Eric Morgan, a graduate student in history who was eating a waffle. "I think if he trimmed it back, it would be nice."

Michele Buckley, a leader of the campus Democrats and an organizer of the Dean rally, said the former Vermont governor's short haircut helps on campus.

Finally an explanation of Dean's front-runner status that makes sense!

I guess the short hair helps Dean maintain his 'manly' image as well.

1. Sharpton doesn't look too pleased there
That picture says more than a thousand words.

2. He should be pleased? When did Sharpton ever say he loved Dean?

8. This just looks like a bad picture, that's all
If you remember the video from "Rock The Vote" seen under the end credits, Sharpton and Dean were embracing and smiling at one another. . .this photo is from that moment - it just looks like the shutter on this photo went off at a strange moment.

4. Maybe he should shave his head, to stand out more

Alternatively, he and Dean and Clark could adopt my original idea that they merge their efforts and form a hip-hop group.

I think that would improve poll results for all 3 of them.

5. I think the Dean-Kerry 'Crossroads'-style guitar showdown would be fun.

6. HA!!!
That's hilarious, because if this were fourteen years ago (when I was in college), Kerry's hair would be quite short. I would still argue that it is fairly short, still (but I'm a guy who has hair that goes 6" down past my shoulders, too.) :)

I remember quite succinctly that after U2's "The Joshua Tree" came out in 1987, almost every guy grew out his mullet to get the Bono/Edge ponytail look. It seemed that by the spring of '88 every "cool" guy on campus (we'd call them "metrosexuals" today) had one of those dinky little 2" ponytails, folowed shortly by the birkenstocks, cargo shorts, bandanas, mexican ponchos, hacky-sacks and a newfound interest in recycling).

Those were the days...

7. Carol reminds me of me. When my siblings...
fight... I just laugh and laugh. I don't take sides. I just roar at whoever makes the funniest remarks.

Looks like they had a free-for-all during the breaks at that forum. First Wes went after Dean, now Dean is going after Al. Kerry, Edwards and Lieb were probably cracking up at the lot of them.

9. dunno about the dean-sharpton
not sure what Dean and Sharpton are saying to each other, but Carol Mosely-Braun sure seems to think it is funny. I wonder if it has something to do with Kucinich, since it looks like he is being covered by Rev. Al's body.

10. Yeah check out Carol laughing at Dean behind his back.

He must've really been making an idiot out of himself.

I bet there are a lot of short-haired white guys with Confederate flags on their pickups who wish they could get in Al's face like that. Maybe this performance will solidy Dean's position as their candidate.
