Joe Lieberman: Sticking it to Bush on Veteran Issues
Lieberman rolls out veterans plan

“Did the administration think nobody would notice that they’re cutting service members’ pay while giving a huge tax credit to the richest Americans?” Lieberman asked rhetorically while addressing the roughly 200 students, adults and political supporters squeezed into the The Common Thread, the campus’ student center.

“They’re also shortchanging our Veterans Administration hospitals to the tune of $2 billion, while veterans have to wait months, sometimes even years, to get that first appointment (for admission). This has got to stop, and when I’m president, believe me, it will stop,” Lieberman added to vigorous applause.

====
Say what you will about our Joseph Lieberman, after the 2000 fiasco, he does have an odd legitimacy regarding veteran rights. He was the Democract who most vocally supported the counting of illegal ballots because they were cast by veterans. No matter what, the fact he is pressing this issue is good for Democratic candidates as a whole.

Bush is using the armed forces as his personal imperial guard while trying to balance budgets on their backs. Far better to scrap the fraudulent Ballistic Missile Defense thingy and use that money to fund hospitals and give pay raises than continue this farce, pretending to care about our servicemen as they are injured and killed daily for an illegal war and occupation.

1. But everybody hates "Holy Joe"!
I'm not too fond of his religionizing, either, but he's got the stuff when it comes to making the GOP break a sweat.

Which is why I give him a little more latitude than I would otherwise. I don't want to see him in the White House, their, but on the other hand, he is a scrapper.

3. It is impossible to defend against.
It is one of Bush's achilles heels. Luckily for us, he is covered in them.

4. I would like to see a few joint press releases
put out by all the candidates or at least the top-5 and whoever else wants to sign on, denouncing Bush's treatment of veteran issues. Every once in awhile I would like them all to speak with one voice on the issues they all agree on. Yes, I do know the purpose of campaigning is to distinguish yourself from a rival, but once in awhile a display of unity is quite powerful.
