A coup for the Kerry camp (profile of Mary Beth Cahill)
http://www.milforddailynews.com/news/local_regional/kerry11112003.htm

<edit>

She is truly one of the salt-of-the-earth people," Desilets said yesterday. "Her motivation in public life has always been to do good things for others.

"This is certainly a coup for the Kerry campaign. She's a wonderful person, and, besides that, she's a spectacular performer. She knows how to get the job done."

Former state Rep. Barbara Gray agreed.

Although a Republican at the time, Gray yesterday said it was hard not to admire Cahill's political savvy.

1. spin spin spin
if she was so qualified, why the hell didn't he hire her in the first place? not degrading her accumen as a political operative, but saying "this is a coup" for the campaign is flat our spin necessitated by the fact the campaign was running around clueless under jim jordan and a hapless Candidate Kerry.

2. I like your spin
sorta like "house burns down" ends up "green areas increased"

3. She doesn't deserve anyone's animosity
She hasn't even opened her mouth yet. Could you give her a week before you beat the living shit out of her?

4. wrong interpretation
i'm not bashing Cahill -- I hope she can salvage the disaster of the Kerry campaign. the point is that, while i'm sure she is deserving of praise, they are spinning the firing of the campaign architect as a coup for the campaign, which is ridiculous

6. The article is glowing
She's obviously a coup for the campaign if she got this gushing article printed day one.

7. It's like a relief pitcher coming in.
Of course, the team that's batting is thinking "We chased that guy off"
and the team in the field is thinking "Now you have to face our ace" and good pitching usually beats good hitting.

10. Good analogy. Noone complained when others switched campaign managers
Dean switched to Trippi to get more aggressive, and Clark switched his top guy last month. Now that Kerry does it some of the Deanies are all criticism.

At least Kerry isn't changing who HE is or any of his positions on Democratic platform issues like Dean had to to pretend he's not a compromising centrist governor as his 11 year record shows.

11. Hasn't Trippi been Dean's manager all along?
Do you have the reference for the "switch."?

12. Never mind...I looked it up myself...
Here was the change back in March of this year

http://rutlandherald.com/hdean/63440

Switching managers when you're still in the process of putting the campaign into gear is a little different than changing when you've gone from presumptive frontrunner to 14 pts. down in your neighboring state, 7% nationally and the first primary is 79 days away.

14. Oh come on!
He shouldn't change campaign managers just because of the supposed timing issue?

He made a decision. It doesn't matter if it was made in March, yesterday, or a day before the primaries in New Hampshire. What matters is that he did, and, I think, for the betterment of his campaign.
