Much or any chance of a McCain endorsement?
The Republicans are lucky enough to have the endorsement of Zell Miller for Pres. Bush, but then again, Zell Miller isn't exactly a rank and file Democrat. So my question is this: is there much chance of the opposite happening as well? Is there much chance that John McCain, or any other prominent Senate Republican, would endorse the Democratic nominee? John McCain has, after all, criticized this administration.

On the other hand, I could be dreaming.

1. That would be a nice scenario, leyton.
But I can't see that happening. McCain is going to be supporting Bush.

2. Nope, But I Bet He'd Like To
I don't think he'll break ranks in that audacious of a manner.

Although I bet he'd like to in order to shaft Shrubya for screwing him in 2000 and for all the slights that little chickenhawk has doled out to him since.

3. There's only one that McCain would endorse.
And it wouldn't be a popular endorsement to many here, however it would matter greatly to the American people and swing much more than half the undecided votes to the Dem.

5. You're talking about Lieberman, right?
McCain wouldn't endorse Lieberman -- he IS a Republican, after all. But he'd probably have some kind words to say about him and in all likelihood would not partake in the ritual Republican trashing of the Democratic nominee.

6. I could only see him doing it for Kerry
They are friends and vets and have worked together well over the years.

However, even if Kerry gets the nom, I really do not think this is a possibility. McCain would be tossed from his party. What I could see happening is McCain not actively campaigning for Bush. I also think that he would politely decline to speak at the Repug. convention and not speak ill of Kerry. Of course that could change if Bush & Co. went after Kerry's patriotism.

7. Bingo! If it's Kerry, McCain wouldn't campaign for Bush.
If it's anyone else, factor in a certain percentage of voters who trust McCain above all other politicians, and if the party persuades McCain to campaign for Bush he brings along those percentage points.

9. agreed, although unlikely
I don't think McCain would stop being a repug anytime soon. Even though he's a "good" repug, he's still a repug

decent friends with Lieberman as well, considering he's worked on several pieces of legistlation with him.

11. McCain buried the hatchet with Bush via Iraq War
he will endorse Bush, no doubt about it. McCain has consistently pledged 100% support for the war, in addition to appearing on media networks to defend it as well as mercilessly attack good Dems like Jim McDermott for critisizing the Bush Administration.

12. if in a few months...
if in a few months Bush appears to be losing the election, Chafee could do it. But McCain? I don't think so.

14. Not McCain, but maybe Chafee or Snowe....
Even that's a stretch, though. You saw what happened when they dared question Bush's tax plan...:eyes:
