Veteran (Cleland) touts Kerry candidacy
Former U.S. Sen. Max Cleland, of Georgia, declared his support for Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry in a visit to Hampton on Veterans Day, emphasizing Kerry’s war record, leadership abilities and the lack of those same qualities in the current administration.

<snip>

Cleland, who served in the Senate with Kerry, praised the Massachusetts senator’s willingness to speak up for his principles and his new ideas for the future of the country.

"We need to create a new infrastructure, invest in jobs and in education," said Cleland, adding that the Bush administration is leading the country "toward deflationary recession," a continuing exodus of jobs and higher budget deficits.

<snip>

He called Kerry "a fellow Vietnam veteran, a former colleague, and an extraordinary human being," who understands the issues and problems this country faces.

Cleland added that the Democrats, and Kerry in particular, can win several states in the South, including Florida, Arkansas and Louisiana, by getting its supporters out.

"The death of the Democratic party in the South has been greatly exaggerated," Cleland said. "The Republicans won (in 2000) on turnout, not the issues. The Democrats need a strong get-the-vote-out campaign."

1. Hopefully this is a new tack, Kerry promoting Kerry.
Max Cleland is a very fine man and its good to have him speaking positively about a Democratic Candidate. This kind of talk makes me think much more highly of Kerry.

Doesn't it sound nice?

No mention of the other Democratic candidates here, all of whom some people seem to think worse than Bush himself, given the number of negatives we hear.

5. He's going to hit as many vet organizations
in the country that he can. He's an excellent spokesman. His loss and its screaming injustice set him on fire. He's ablazin' at Bush. Anyone who has the opportunity to hear him speak should do so.
