Louisiana Guv: Jindal 47% Blanco 38%
latest poll out of Louisiana gives Republican Bobby Jindal a nine-point edge with 47% compared to Lt. Gov. Blanco's 38%.

Among white voters Jindal has an overwhelming 62-27 point lead.
Among black voters Blanco leads 63-12 with 22% undecided compared to only 8% of white voters. This is a key showing. Blanco has to get an overwhelming margin of these undecideds to go her way and turnout for her on Saturday if she has any chance of winning.

33% think the state is moving in the right direction. Of these people Jindal leads with 60% of the vote.

31% think the state is not moving in the right or the wrong direction just staying the same. Jindal leads 45-38 among this group.

24% think the state is moving in the wrong direction and they support Blanco by 51-34 percent.

2. It's all over but the shouting. We've lost this one.
Like many recent LA races, our chance of winning boils down to maintaining the African-American advantage (90-10) we traditionally hold AND mobilizing them for a heavy turnout.

This time, a number of leaders in that community are endorsing Jindal.

I had a post yesterday (here -http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=102&topic_id=214785 ) in LBN that got pulled for incorrect title (I didn't want to go with "Jindal for Governor" - can you blame me?) and that it was old news (the moderator looked at the date on an associated article, the endorsement was brand new), but the New Orleans Tribune (a "black newspaper" with a long history actually endorsed the Republican AND encouraged people to go vote.
This, along with the BOND endorsement and a couple others, is probably why Blanco is sitting at 63% support of African Americans. There is little reason to suppose tha large numbers of minorites are going to show up to save Blanco.

4. "Principle"???
At the national level, we want as many "D's" as we can get. We want a Senator that will vote for Daschle for Majority Leader (or whoever we get to replace him) and not Frist. We call them DINOs, but they are preferable to real Republicans.

At the local level (and ALL politics is local) it comes down to a lot more than that. These two candidates are VERY similar in terms of policy and Jindal seems more genuine to a bunch of people.

I they they are saying "don't take my vote for granted" in a race where they aren't turning down a liberal for a conservative.

It would be "refreshing" if it weren't poor timing from a national standpoint. But if we don't "get it" soon, Sharpton will tech it to us in spades next year.

Did you see the debate last night? Hate to say it, but Blanco looked like a mumbling idiot next to Jindal IMO.

6. This seems to point out as well...
The Democratic Party desperately needs to find a way to reach out to white voters in the South.

7. damn
Blanco could've won the entire thing without the runoff if Dems hadn't wanted to have their cake and eat it too by piling on so many candidates in the first round election. But, also, Blanco seems to have been running a less than stellar campaign, and Jindal is sucessfully selling himself to the state's conservatives.

I think the Dems are going to suffer a thriple whammy for governors losses in 2003.

9. This one's over now
Oh well. We are shut out of all the statehouses in Dixie now.

It is a shame, because Democrats got more than 50% of the vote at the primary.

Another loss.

11. So, what does this mean for next year?
It's obvious that Blanco is outclassed by this young kid. But, correct me if I'm wrong but isn't Louisiana swinging their vote to the best person, not necessarily the best party?

What is going in Lousiana?
