Democratic battle plan for 2004 - The Note
Here's the battle plan as reported by ABC's The Note:

The plan:

--Focus on insecurity over how things are going in Iraq.

--Talk about the economy in a way that resonates with voters despite signs of economic recovery.

--Hit President Bush's personal reputation and likeability.

--Focus on the 17 states where Bush claimed a narrow victory — or a narrow loss — in 2000, and gin up the base.

--Channel the soft money that used to go toward "party building" into the 527 groups mobilizing against President Bush.

2. despite signs of economic recovery
tell that to the small business owners in my neck of the woods. Tell that to my friends that are facign layoff at the end of the month. We ain't in recovery just yet, despite the cooked numbers that will quietly be revised (my prediction only, based on historics) next quarter, followed by more outrageous numbers that will again be revised in the following quarter...

3. another thing
I believe that the Dems have got to start talking about military action. They need to stress the importance of finding UBL and Al-Qaeda. I firmly believe that becoming distracted with the Iraq debacle may backfire, and we may get too caught up in criticism to show ourselves as a party that does believe that in the case of terrorism, there are wars worth fighting. We cannot be highjacked by the pacifists, if we do, we will lose to the imperialists.

5. Amen
n/t. We are the real party of national security. They are the party of "won't meet the coffins at the airport."

4. Talk about the 80's
Do we want a monstrous deficit and no fix to SSI or Medicare? Do we want stagnant wage growth and 6% unemployment? Do we want proxy wars all over the world making us less secure? That's what they brought then, that's what they bring now. Not so complicated.
