Governor's race narrows to 4 points as Jindal drops, Blanco gains in poll
BATON ROUGE - The governor's race narrowed to a four-point gap, a dramatic shift as Republican Bobby Jindal dropped three points and Democrat Kathleen Blanco rose two points in Verne Kennedy's tracking poll out Thursday morning.

The poll trends led Kennedy to say the race is becoming too close to call.

The sample of 600 people taken three nights through Wednesday night put it at 46 percent for Jindal, down from 49 percent from the day before, and 42 percent for Blanco, up from 39 percent the day before.

Kennedy said his projections show that if the election had been held Tuesday, Jindal would have been ahead by one 1 percent, which means the race is within the poll's margin of error of 4 points.

1. Did Landrieu make Democrats look good?
Wouldn't it be sweet if the 30 hour pillow fight made Democrats in LA proud to be Democrats and shifted momentum in Blanco's favor?

Or hadn't Landrieu mad Wednesday night's local news?

I guess she would have hit the airwaves all day Thursday.

4. That would be fantastic
I think that Landrieu could be a great VP and if Blanco were elected governor, Landrieu's seat would be safely in Democratic hands. Blanco could possibly appoint Atty. Gen. Richard Ieyoub (who will be out of office at that point) to Landrieu's seat, and Ieyoub would be able to hold that in 2006.

2. It's a question of turnout among African-Americans....
and the Democratic base. The base could too be coming home, after all the Democratic Total in the primary was 57% and the Repugs had 40%.

If Democrats loose this race they have to blame themselves for not sticking behind their candidate like the Repugs do, ALL THE TIME!

3. I have seen all of these weird polls
but Blanco has been behind in every single one of them. Doesn't look good really.

5. Too little to late.
I question a poll that shows a 7-point swing overnight. I watched the last debate and there were no major gaffs. I question ANY poll by either side that shows such a major shift. It’s a tactic used to energize the masses that has been grossly over used. The only way we are going to will this election is turnout! The GOP will be out in force. If we don’t get out, then it won’t even be close. And Blanco is a good candidate! She’s not a left wing fringe type. If she were, she wouldn’t be in the runoff. We need to get Marc Morial’s team to work for voter turnout.

6. I find it funny...
That Bush campaigned for the Repub gubernatorial candidates in MS and KY, but not LA.

He's not racist though. He just doesn't like dark skinned gentlemen!

7. More likely reason is
that he didn't do any good for Terrell against Landrieux.

When Bush was Governor of Texas, he went very far to making sure that the people he ran with (Team Bush) had women, A-A's and Hispanics on the ballot with him. You can also see it in his picking of advisors and cabinet members, and judges. Bush is very keen in putting minority faces in front of his party. If people don't see that, they have little understanding of Bush.

8. GOTV will determine who wins this race then
If Blanco can get her people out and executive her field plan well, provided that it is as close as the poll here says, then she can eke out a win.

9. It could go either way, IMO
Jindal has been leading in almost every poll I've seen recently but I still think Blanco can pull it off if she gets out the vote in a MAJOR way in heavily Democratic districts.

I live in a mostly white, heavily Republican district. I just got back from voting and there was NO ONE there, except for me and the poll workers. It's a beautiful day today, too. Maybe they think Jindal has it nailed down so they didn't bother to vote. Hmmmmmmm. More likely, I just got there during a lull. My district will go to the Repuke, as it always does.

I did notice that most of the Blanco signs that were in place along side the highway a few days ago are now mysteriously gone. Jindal signs still standing, of course.

10. I still think these polls are flawed...

the gender gap is a huge factor in this race, and many married people lie about who they vote for. Especially when married to someone who is voting differently!

Here's a link that will show a county breakdown of the election results...
