Kerry, Jeffords blast Bush over environmental issues
New England senators are launching a new wave of blistering attacks on the Bush administration's environmental protection policies as partisan bickering on Capitol Hill reaches new levels with Congress nearing adjournment for the year.

Democratic presidential candidate and Massachusetts Sen. John Kerry is blasting the administration for its stance on wetlands issues, while Sen. James Jeffords, I-Vt., is decrying the White House as being at war with the Clean Air Act.

"He's destroying our natural resources and forcing us to breathe unhealthy air and to swim and fish in dirty water just to reward the special interests that contribute to his campaigns. America deserves better for our families and for future generations," Kerry said of Bush.

Jeffords, the ranking member of the Senate Environment and Public works Committee, said the Clean Air Act is under attack. "I want my colleagues to know that I will be vigilant in pointing out places where this Administration is at war with the Clean Air Act," Jeffords said in a recent floor speech. "And they are numerous."
