4. 2 pheasants sacrificed for a photo-op
As a real hunter I detest that senseless killing of game.

As a hunter I eat what I kill and so is Kerry but he is only doing that cause he shot the 2 pheasant limit for a photo op.

That rat bastard Cheney aint doing it for a photo op. He enjoys it.

8. Your statement is just not true.
Would you care to back up your assertion that the pheasants didn't get eaten? It's BS and you know it.

14. They did get eaten but that is not why he shot them
He shot them for the photo op first.

Then he had to eat them or give them to someone else to eat.

15. Kerry's a hunter so he does a photo-op of himself hunting. So what?

What's wrong with that?

21. I detest hunting, but Kerry is and was a hunter
and I support him. Kerry is upfront about everything he says and does. He has not sealed any records and he responds when challenged or questioned.

"but he is only doing that cause he shot the 2 pheasant limit for a photo op"

REALLY? Prove it.

5. An animal has to die for all meat eaten.
Is there really that much difference morally between the hunt and the slaughterhouse?

6. I'll bet animals had to die for your clothes and for your car's fuel
so what's your point?

7. I bet they did.
So if we're talking about a carnivorous society, what's so much worse about hunting animals than raising and slaughtering them?

9. The answer is yes.

And the poster is trying to attack him for being a hunter.

If you are anti-hunting, Kerry is definitely not the candidate for you.

John Kerry eats dove. Even better, he shoots them. From behind the stalks of a Southern cornfield, he'll watch them flutter and dart, and fire.

"You clean them. Let them hang. It takes three or four birds to have a meal," said the Massachusetts senator. "You might eat it at a picnic, cold roasted. I love dove."

Dove, quail, duck, deer. Kerry described how to hunt and gut them, talking as he sliced through a steak at midnight after campaigning all day in Iowa for the Democratic presidential nomination. Carve out the heart, he said over dinner, pull out the entrails and cut up the meat. Bad table manners, perhaps, or good politics.

10. I Don't Care if Kerry Eats and/or Shoots Pheasant
About as far as I'm willing to go here is to say that, if I were in his shoes, I wouldn't go for an Iowa shooting photo-op while attacking Dean for not being aggressive enough in restricting gun ownership. (Talk about a mixed message.) But, hey, what do I know? I don't run Kerry's campaign.

Geez, what an important "issue." (Not.)

12. That was the whole point
People can own guns for legitimate purposes and buy those guns under laws that keep them out of the hands of criminals. We've been banning various automatic weapons and weapons sought for crime since the 1930's. We're not doing anything new. It hasn't harmed anybody's ability to buy a hunting rifle or handgun for protection, that's his whole point. We can have the laws we need to protect citizens from the most dangerous weapons and we shouldn't turn our backs on doing that to cozy up to the NRA.

Frankly, it's a bit bizarre to me that we'll let guns be sold willy-nilly around the country, but have laws that let the FBI see what book somebody checks out from the library. We ought to control the guns, not the books.

13. FBI does the gun background checks
They know who has them and who doesn't.

16. No they don't
The records are destroyed after the background check is complete. The only people who have a remote clue as to who 'owns' what gun is the retailer. That was what that whole deal about Malvo and the lousy records the gun dealer kept was all about, remember? After the person buys the gun and sells it to someone else, there's no record at all.

But what book somebody's reading, that's really important for the FBI to know about in order to fight terror attacks.

18. Destroyed after 90 days
Ashcroft doesn't even want those records available during the 90 day storage time. This has been the law since the beginning. Apparently Ashcroft wants these records destroyed within one day, leaving absolutely no record at all. The only permanent record on gun sales is with the gun dealer and there's no record after the guns are sold.

22. And now it's gone
Unless it was less than 90 days ago. In addition, Ashcroft doesn't want those records accessible to solve crimes or cross-checked against terrorist lists. Ashcroft wants to make it gone in 24 hours. Library records are there unless the library destroys them. Why is it important to be able to see who is checking out library books and not who is buying weapons?
