Lieberman files, projects self as alternative to Dean, Kerry

Democratic presidential hopeful Joe Lieberman said Monday that momentum is building for him to become the alternative to the two rivals well ahead in the polls here, Howard Dean and John Kerry.

“I feel real momentum growing in New Hampshire, and I expect to do well here. What well means we’ll decide as we get a lot closer to primary day,” Lieberman told reporters.

“It’s a Dean-Kerry contest, Kerry is dropping and the rest of us are bunched. My hope, plan is I’m going to break out of the bunch as an alternative,” Lieberman said during an interview.

Lieberman vowed to oppose a pending energy bill because it would protect oil companies against lawsuits brought due to environmental damage from a gasoline additive.

Lieberman said he remains undecided on whether he will vote for a compromise to offer a prescription drug benefit to seniors that has the backing of President Bush and congressional Republicans.

“The president and the right-wing Republicans in the House just couldn’t resist messing up the prescription drug benefit bill with provisions that are unrelated to it,” he said.

Should have been Kerry or Edwards (even though I'm not supporting them now). Either one could have destryoed Cheney and I think there are a few voters that will still vote for a VP if they don't like the top two.

Gore was really doing everything he could to "look Clean". It was all part of his "I am not Bill Clinton" strategy.

5. I love Gore, but this was a mistake, being "Mr. Clean."

It had the effect of validating the Republican smear. There would have been no contest if he'd worked closely with Clinton.

But it's all water under the bridge. Let's dispose of Holy Joe, choose one of the better candidates, and win in 2004!
