Kerry to visit capital today
Candidate says Bush vulnerable in Florida
By Bill Cotterell
DEMOCRAT POLITICAL EDITOR

Despite a string of Republican victories in Florida, U.S. Sen. John Kerry said Wednesday that President Bush should be vulnerable on health care, economic and education issues in this crucial state next year.

>snip>"Florida is like other parts of the country," he said. "People care about a workplace that's fair and corporate executives not walking away with millions while their workers get stuck with the bill....Floridians are going to listen very carefully to who's on their side."

Kerry said "Washington is in the grip of special interests" under the Bush administration. He said the Republicans are vulnerable on education, prescription-drug coverage for the elderly and "health care for all."

"I don't think the Bush administration has any plan for health care, and they've been losing jobs overseas for three years," Kerry said. He said those issues would dominate the campaign, in the South and nationwide, next year.

1. Wow, right out of Dean's campaign book...

There it is...a different Southern strategy. Thank you, Senator Kerry.

2. Must you Deanheads dump on every non-Dean candidate thread?
If Dean is the Democratic nominee, the Democrats will not only lose the Presidency, the Congressional Democrats up for re-election will take a beating, especially in the South.

All Democrats need to consider this scenario, long and hard.

3. I'm not dumping...I agree...He is right on..
And I thought Howard Dean was, too...this is what he has been talking about as far as campaigning in the South.

These issues are likely to bring some of the people in the South together politically instead of drive further divisions.

4. This isn't a "New Southern Strategy"
It's what Bush and Republicans are vulnerable on, all over the country. He isn't saying stop talking about affirmative action, the confederate flag, or any other racial or 'divisive' issue here at all.

5. Dean doesn't say stop talking about affirmative action...
If that's your insinuation...when I saw him in person he talked at length about the U. of Michigan affirmative action case.

Do you have a link of where Kerry said something like this before the "Confederate flag" flap? I'd be happy to see it.

6. Like what?
You're certainly not insinuating that health care, economic and education issues are uniquely Dean issues are you?
