GOP fears $420M avalanche
Republicans fear left-leaning advocacy groups will raise up to $420 million in unregulated contributions, the kind of soft money that the 2002 McCain-Feingold law prevents the parties themselves from collecting.

Wouldn't it be nice if the Dems got this much money!
:)

1. Screw them
O'Really was saying Scaife only donated a couple hundred thousand dollars. BS. He has given tens of millions dollars to think tanks that endorse Republican ideals overwhelmingly.

5. dirty little secret of GOP politics
there are more middle class and poor folks in this country than rich ones. and the rich are split down the middle between the GOP and the dems (the REALLY rich, that is) face it, chumps, you made it more difficult for a small group of people to fund a campaign, and we gots more that you do, and we're pissed. get used to it. the grass roots belong to the Dems now, sure there are still hard right grass roots efforts, but they don't give like liberals do.

12. I think it might happen
The amount of money Dean has been raising from thousands of small doners, plus people like Soros.... it makes me think that this year we might not be at a cash disadvantage. We might even have more money. If Republicans hardly win outspending us 4:1, think what happens if the money playing field is even!

8. SICK!
This money war is making me SICK! Can you imagine how much poverty, how many hospital bills and prescription drugs for the elderly, how many homeless this money could be used to help? I'm not blaming the Democrats, they almost have to raise this much to remain competitive, but it just makes me sick to think of how much money we must divert this much money from our charitble giving to try to beat the plutocrats.

:puke:

9. This is how they get GOP donors to pony up even more.
This means their goal will be at least 800 million for right-leaning groups.

Funny, thing...Teresa Heinz puts lots of funds into a number of the left-leaning advocacy groups. I wonder if that's the base of their supposed fear.

11. It may be due to a local angle
but here it seens to be Soros and Lewis they fear. Lewis is a Cleveland citizen so that may explain why he gets huge coverage here.
