Dean VeryClose to Bush Ad Response Fundraising Goal
As of 11 AM Eastern Time Sunday, Dean is less than $48,400 away from meeting his latest fundraising goal. The funds raised will be used to go against Bush now that he's on the air in Iowa running TV ads. (Republicans are concerned that Bush might be vulnerable, so they're on the air 49 weeks ahead of the election to try to stop Bush's slide in the polls. The ad distorts Bush's own record.)

Dean looks set to meet this goal more than two days ahead of schedule. That would mean raising another $360,000 during the normally quiet weekend ahead of Thanksgiving -- in just over two days. (The "bat" went up during the day Friday.)

Congratulations to my fellow Dean supporters who have (almost) done it again, and early.

13. Thanks for your support.
First, every dollar counts.

Second, you've just helped make his average donation size even smaller!

Gee, maybe I was wrong about you...

24. So then open your wallet to your candidate.
instead of whining about the front runner.

6. I sent $50. I hope they revise the script
before the ad runs though. I think it could be stronger. Heck, there are stronger ones posted on the blog.

7. They Are
The script they posted was a Friday morning Burlington brainstorming session (for draft). They've already said it'll be something else, with lots of Blog input.

8. I don't see why he's bothering to respond....
What's the point? Right now, bush isn't his opponent. Eight other dems are. And Dean is the only one who is taking the attacks personally?

9. Bush is calling us a bunch of terrorist supporters.
This is a bunch of shit and needs to be ended now. The Republicans are painting ALL Democrats with this mendacious brush and it is about time someone stood up to this kind of thuggery.

12. But Dean is the one who's answering personally...

Would seem to imply that Dean thinks bush is targeting him alone.

14. No, Dean thinks he's targeting Dems in general...
...and has turned it into another opportunity to raise money to beat Bush.

Obviously, it works...

15. I would like to see each candidate regard Bush as the enemy
and each to attempt rising to the top of the heap by enunciating the clearest and most focused plan not only for arresting (figuratively and hopefully even literally) Bush, but for rebuilding our looted country.

If every Democrat spent his or her money attacking Bush, rather than one another, the ultimate winner would have quite a thing going by the end.

10. No, Bush Is the Real Opponent
Edited on Sun Nov-23-03 03:28 PM by tsipple
Bush is every Democratic candidate's opponent. Right now, not next year. Bush is running ads against Democrats in Iowa. Every one of the nine potential nominees. All should be helping in that fight, and each according to his/her campaign's means.

As one of the leading Democratic contenders, Dean feels it is important to keep the focus on Bush as "miserable failure." (Thank you, Dick Gephardt, for coining that most accurate description.) So he's raising money expressly for that purpose.

His campaign will choose the message, medium, and timing, but he'll be ready, whether or not he wins the nomination.

That's also a side benefit of being well supported financially with hundreds of thousands of small contributions. You can expand the fight beyond parochial interests and toward strategic goals.

By the way, as of 3 PM Eastern on Sunday, November 23, Dean supporters are less than $21,400 away from the goal. If anyone feels moved to help out with a buck or two or three, please click on the graphic (top of this thread).

18. Kerry put up response ads last night...no fundraising gimmick, though.
I do have to laugh how a bunch of the Deanies are all yakking about how Dean is first, yet again, when they pay no attention to what any other campaign does.

Hell, if you ask them, they'll tell you that Kerry copied Dean's foreign policy and environmental speeches. Heh.

11. Average Dean Contribution: $62.32
Edited on Sun Nov-23-03 03:28 PM by tsipple
That's the average as of 3 PM Eastern on November 23rd in this fundraising campaign. (I gave $50 to satisfy my opt-out vote pledge.)

Two million people giving $100 each = $200 million = Bush's "fat cat" corporate funding for his unopposed primary.

That's how to do it.

16. Kerry's ads against the RNC ad are running already, and didn't use it
to fundraise. Peculiar priorities.

17. That would explain Kerry's fundraising numbers...
Look, if we didn't want to contribute, we wouldn't. It's not like he's holding a gun to our heads. Using this as a fundraising event is a great idea, IMHO.

20. And Therefore Kerry...
...will go broke and will not be able to respond to Bush in the near future.

That is peculiar.
