Awesome Kucinich event in East Los Angeles
Edited on Mon Nov-24-03 12:53 AM by genius
Dennis Kucinich joined by stars, spoke in East Los Angeles today to an audience that was glued to every word. After he spoke, he answered questions the stars posed to him and then answered questions from the audience. A great many children were in the audience and it was impressive to see so many young kids committed to this great leader. Danny Glover flew in from Northern California just to be at the event. He explained that he had previously only endorsed two other candidates in the last thirty-two years. After the event, everyone caravaned over to the campaign' s East L.A. office where Dennis cut the ribbon and officially opened the office. Danny used that line out of "Lethal Weapon II" asking whether the ribbon would be cut on 3 or on 1,2,3, go.

7. It was posted twice.
I posted it and then noticed someone else had already posted it. But, you're right. It should have been posted weeks ago.

I have heard from others who missed it that they had also wished they had been there. Part of the trouble is that the person in charge of the Southern California Campaign is often not certain when or where the events will occur. I understand that after this one was scheduled there was a false rumor that it had been cancelled and, while the word did get out and a lot of people were there, I feel bad for those who didn't know about it. It was a great event and it's a shame you didn't find out about it in time to go. However, I'm sure he'll be back. You might check with whichever office is closest to you to find out about the next one.

2. Oh wow...this is so COOL!
Dennis really loves kids. I watched him play with the grand daughter of one our our state coordinators when he was in Phx. She really liked him & kept catching his eye and running up to him & he'd bend down to talk to her & then she'd giggle and run off again.

Sounds like a great time...glad you were there...thanks for the report, genius!
:yourock:

Peace

12. I heard it was really nice
The Mayor of Irvine reportedly introduced Dennis. Dennis always gets a positive response wherever he goes.

4. Unfortunately
Our most qualified presidential candidate isn't "pretty" enough to win the nomination. It's a bunch of crap!

8. Young Mr. Kleeb
Could you imagine what a great place this could be if DK were in office? What a fantastic future the youth of America could look forward to? You need to do your best to convince/educate those of your age that this is the right path to take. Make people think for themselves.

9. Theres a quote that a wiseman once said that is music to my ears
"Some men see things as they are and say, 'Why?' I dream of things that never were and say, 'Why not?'"
Robert F. Kennedy, after George Bernard Shaw
I know what you mean. I am sick of war honestly, thats what attracts me to him. Plus he is such a joy to listen to honestly. I would rather be idealistic with a vision rather than pragamatic simply to be pragamatic, not attacking anyone here but too many seem willing to accept that a liberal cant win, and one can win, the road wont be easy but damnit if we work hard we can do it.

10. One of my favorite quotes too
Just was reminded of another one from Mark Twain yesterday:

"Patriotism is supporting your country unconditionally; and your government when it is deserving."

14. The Kennedys, MLK, Abe Lincoln
Were they killed because they were great, or vice versa?

More of the first, a little of both.

18. o/t another great Twain quote on Patriotism
This one's from my Stupid White Men desk calendar for 2003:

"Talking of patriotism, what humbug it is; it is a word which always commemorates a robbery. There isn't a foot of land in the world which doesn't represent the ousting and re-ousting of a long line of successive owners."

16. Great to hear.
Way to go Dennis! Everywhere Dennis goes, it seems the audience is "glued to every word." There's good reason for that: he is saying what needs to be said!

Instead of empty, typical campaign promises and soundbites, this guy is speaking with integrity. You can tell the Kooch means what he says.

Go Dennis!

17. Press coverage?
It sure didn't appear in my local so cal paper this morning. I couldn't be there, having promised a friend a month ago that I would help her with an event yesterday. I hoped to see something in this morning's paper. Nothing. Should I go check out the Times?

I'm sorry I missed it!

20. There was a lot of press there. But I didn't see any coverage
It was probably one of those things where their stations told them to kill the story because Dennis's candidacy is a threat to their corporate backers.

21. I know that feeling
There was a story all over Minnesota Public Radio about a campaign appearance Wes Clark made at a farm in Fargo, ND, that drew 200 supporters. It was a decent 30-second spot that was repeated each hour with the local news update.

Interestingly enough, when we packed a 1400-seat high school auditorium (standing room only) with DK supporters a month ago in Minneapolis, it barely even got mentioned-- certainly not in heavy rotation all weekend. WTF? Same reporter, even!

And they say the media's not biased. :eyes:

22. It happens so regularly
I could set my clock to it.

If you want to know what Dennis is all about, you have to go meet him. Hear him in person. Otherwise, you'll never know.

23. The cameramen spent a lot of time filming the children in the audience.
The East L.A. audience had a huge number of children. I bet the stations really didn't want to show those shots. One young girl asked a question and the panel asked her to come up on stage and sit with them for the rest of the program. The volunteers going up and down the eisles collecting the checks were also children. Dennis is the best candidate when it comes to families but the media doesn't want us to know that.

Kids really like Dennis in my experience. They are particularly receptive to the idea of a Department of Peace.
