How many women will be elected to the U.S. Senate in 2004?
What are your predictions?

South Carolina - Senator Inez Tenenbaum?
Is she popular enough statewide? Will her challenger be slick or a putz?

Florida - Senator Betty Castor?
Can she knock off Deutsch and Penelas, and then benefit from an ugly GOP primary?

Georgia - Senator Mary Squires?
Will Jim Marshall jump into the race and take the nomination, or could Squires end up as the lone Dem in the primaries, benefitting from a contentious GOP primary battle?

Missouri - Senator Nancy Farmer?
Kit Bond's reelection margins haven't traditionally been that impressive. Plus Missouri is a swing state...could this be the one that finally does Bond in?

Illinois - Senator Nancy Skinner or Senator Maria Pappas?
It will be a crowded Dem primary, with Obama, Hull, and Hynes all backed by strong organizations.

Out of these, I'd say there will be a net gain of at least 2 to 3 (my bets are on Tenenbaum, Farmer, and Castor).

Assuming the reelections of Boxer, Murray, Lincoln, and Mikulski (with Murray being the most vulnerable, in my opinion), I predict we will see a record number of 16 female senators (17 if Lisa Murkowski eekes out a win by some miracle).

1. If there's more terror, their chances of winning will be hurt.

it is the only way to break down the patriarchal nature of our society

i won't vote for Braun, but only because i think Kucinich better represents those ideals

4. Add one more
Barbara Boxer, D-CA. As usual, it will be an uphill battle and it will depend on who the Republicans run against her, but I think in the end, she will retain her seat.
