Buchanan (NHGazette article on Bush-Nazis) challenging Bush in primaries
AN OPEN LETTER TO ASSOCIATED PRESS
To: Jonathan Salant, Sandy Johnson and Joe Magruder
Please note the independently-reported blurb below from Politics1.com regarding my Republican Presidential candidacy. Please also note the reference to AP's position on my original "Bush-Nazi" story from The New Hampshire Gazette. It seems that your versiuon of the facts has already discredited my core story somewhat, when in fact it is AP that has trampled the truth.
Therefore, I am again issuing a public challenge to AP -- and the world media -- to establish "the facts" -- once and for all.
Now that I have been asked to run for the Republican nomination, quite legitimately, by a living legend (John McConnell, the 88-year-old founder of Earth Day, whose friends included Edward Teller, Margaret Mead and Edward R. Murrow), and a number others, the misreporting of reporter Jonathan Salant in your October 16 version of my "Bush-Nazi" story has become a serious issue and must be addressed, lest it subvert the Constitutional process in a Presidential election year.
After two months of silence from AP, following your initial story, which started the still-growing worldwide "controversy," this is a formal request that you re-investigate and correctly report the "Bush-Nazi" story based on the November 17 essay by Presidential historian and Bush biographer Herbert Parmet at the History News Network, www.hnn.us. Both Mr. Parmet and Howard Kurtz of The Washington Post, among many others including former Justice Department Nazi war crimes prosecutor John Loftus, have suggested that the story -- undiscovered and unreported for 60 years -- warrants further scrutiny as to its historic factuality and current relevance.
This is a request that you fulfill that responsibility in the public forum as the Presidential campaign develops so that the American people can exercise their right to determine its relevance or political importance on their own.
I have never suggested that this story has anything directloy to do with President Bush, or that the "sins of the father" should be held against his descendants. However, I and many others -- including Mr. McConnell and my other key advisers, including Enver Masud, CEO of The Wisdom Fund (www.twf.org) -- believe strongly that the important and timely "relevance" of the story lies in the issue of runaway war profiteering by former high government officials such as ex-President Bush and former Secretary of State James A. Baker througn secret "defense contractors" such as The Carlyle Group.
As part of my campaign, I intend to expose "the big stories the mainstream media won't tell you about."
I hope you are ready to face that reportorial challenge head-on. I also trust you will treat seriously my challenge to Bush in the Republican primaries, beginning in NH. I also expect to be on the ballots in California and Florida, and possibly in DC on January 13.
I intend to unseat the incumbent occupant of the White House with truth and the facts. I hope you and your peers in the mass media will support that effort with careful scrutiny of my positions and solutions to national problems.
I promise many "big new ideas" that have not been proposed by any other candidate, including much-needed media reeforms.
This country is, in my opinion, is badly broken, and I have very specific ideas for how to fix it. I trust you will give me voice as my campaign gathers momentum at a grass roots level. I will gove Bush a run for his money in new Hampshire, just as Pat Buchanan did to his father in 1992. I hope therefore you wil not ignore me or sabotage my effort as a citizen with further silence.
I look foward to your response.
Thank you.
John Buchanan

2. Are John and Pat Buchanan related?
And it sounds like John is extremely unhappy with AWOL.

4. Hmmmm....this could get very interesting.
Could his campaign take-off? It would be extremely damaging to this party of choreography to have someone crash the Bush lovefest...particularly if he can ignite a grassroots protest from moderate Republicans in NH.

5. It's possible
Doubtful, but I wonder if it is worth supporting
