Dean bat over $500,000 with deadline of midnight
Last Friday Howard Dean challenged his supporters to answer Bush's tv ad in Iowa and New Hampshire asserting that Democrats who opposed the war were unpatriotic.

The goal was $5,000 for every hour that ad plays in Iowa or $360,000. Well as of 1pm est Deaniacs have raised $534,256.38 exceeding the goal by $174,256.38 with nearly 12 hours yet to go--an average contribution so far of $62.93.

Furthermore, Dean went on the air yesterday in Iowa with an ad to couner Bush's thanks in part to the outpouring of support this latest Dean challenge accomplished.

3. What IS their excuse on this one?

They couldn't make the debate and STILL couldn't be bothered to vote against the bill? (Kerry and Lieberman, that is)

5. Here's a joke: How many white guys does it take to buy Dean...
the presidency?

I can't think of anything clever to say (too bad my clever wife is in bed, she would know what to say). But I will say that the public financing system of campaigning is the only way to ensure that we have a democratic system of government. And Howard Dean doesn't agree with me. I wish I could debate him (and his staff) here one on one.

7. What is wrong with the way he is raising money?
Thousands of small contributors. I see nothing wrong.

9. Well, over a half a million so far...at about 67 bucks a piece.
You can think of a BETTER way to:

1) raise money, or

2) show true grass-roots support?

He DOES agree with a public financing system. Bush doesn't. Dean very specificially has stated that the only reason he's opting out of the process is that there's no way to beat a $200M campaign with a $45M campaign. The concept of public financing is great, as long as everybody plays by the rules.

Again, you have a better plan?

12. it is funny that by collecting huge numbers of small donations....
Dean is being attacked for violation of campaign finance laws.

This is not what campaign finance laws were designed to prevent. Dean can hardly help it if so many people donate to his campaign that he is forced to opt out or stop taking contibutions.

11. Playing the race card yet again...
"White guys"?

Right along with all of the anti-Dean forces blithely ignoring the support of African-American national leaders.

Seemingly any Republican strategy will be co-opted by those who wish to attack Dean.
