Zogby: Dean back on top in Iowa (leading 26%-22%)
Des Moines, December 3, 2003 - With less than 7 weeks remaining until Iowa's January 19th caucus, former Vermont Governor Howard Dean has re-taken a slight lead in the race for the democratic presidential nomination.

In a Zogby poll released today, Dean has jumped back ahead of earlier front runner, Dick Gephardt with 26 percent of the vote.

Gephardt is a close second with 22 percent.

Massachusetts senator John Kerry trails with 9 percent, followed by North Carolina senator, John Edwards at 5 percent.

on the Front page of one of our local papers here in the Mohawk
Valley as leading in the Zogby poll! :7

3. What you should be looking at in the polls
If I were you I would be watching National Polls and were Dean stacks up to Bush. Yes, you might argue, it's getting better, he's going up.
Well, I would say, is moving up very slowly, against a the worst president in 100 years. I would be worried about that, and not just Dean, but all of them. The polls show that more than half the American people think this country is moving in the wrong direction, and they would not vote to re-elect Bush, but they are only willing to do it with a generic Democrat. We should all be worried about that.

Another troubling thing is when you look at state polls, the all show a different person ahead. That's also not good when it comes to the convention. This is the first convention in a long time that is looking more and more like it will be deadlocked, because none of them have the peoples mandate. But come to think of it, then they can nominate someone else.

7. National polls don't mean much until the whole nation is paying attention.
As to the state polls having different leaders, that's because they have varying levels of awareness of the candidates. Dean is leading the two with the highest amount of campaigning, and is within striking distance in SC. Dean will arrive at the convention with the nomination and a strong lead over bush. He has by far the best favorable/unfavorable ratio in Iowa and NH (and the NH numbers include independants) of all the candidates. I'd guess that at this point they'd even be better than Gore.
