Clark Says He'd Consider DLCer Spitzer for Role in His Administration
XETER, N.H., Dec. 3 — Gen. Wesley K. Clark said on Wednesday that he would consider asking Eliot Spitzer, the New York attorney general, to be his running mate if he secures the Democratic nomination for president.

Speaking during a call-in program on C-Span after an address at Phillips Exeter Academy here, General Clark also said that he would consider Mr. Spitzer for "many different roles" in his administration if he were to be elected president.

The remarks came in response to a question about what he would do to protect investors who have lost money in the stock market and mutual fund investments over the last three years. Mr. Spitzer has recently been among the most aggressive regulators in investigating illegal actions by mutual fund managers and fund companies.

One caller to the program, who said that his mutual fund investments had fallen sharply and that mutual fund managers "have essentially been stealing from me," asked General Clark, "What are you going to do to protect my savings?"

1. I would welcome Clark appointing Spitzer to AG
He obviously has a record to taking on the the big finance companies. If he was AG, he would take on the big polluters and ENRON. He seems to have a good record.

If there is any "negative" inormation out there about him that compromises his record, then I would re-interpret my perception of him.

2. More on Spitzer
For many Americans, 2002 will go down in history as the year corporations failed them. Story after incredible story of greed and wrongdoing has created an array of new bogeymen: Tyco's Dennis Kozlowski (31 felony counts), Enron's Andrew Fastow (indicted for wire fraud, money laundering and conspiracy), ImClone's Sam Waksal (insider trading). Politicians have huffed and chuffed about how to fix the system, but legislation proposed to date is likely to lack teeth. The Bush Administration responded late to the public's sense of outrage, then seemed to lose focus. In the end, the only man who appeared to be serious about cleaning up the rot was Spitzer, 43, a relatively unknown state official armed with the law, a streak of fearlessness and boxes full of incriminating e-mail.

<snip>

"I have friends in the industry who think I'm doing the wrong thing," Spitzer says. James Cramer, an old friend who does market commentary for TheStreet.com and other media, is blunter: "Everybody on Wall Street hates this guy."

a GREAT choice for Attorney General.

Depending on what happens in '04, I expect him to run for Governor of New York in the next election up there. He will win. And he will be a future Democratic candidate for President.

18. Was that necessary???
I guess then he'd be just as qualified as all of the other candidates too!

Spitzer can get us out of Iraq....OK....

Spitzer can go and repair our relationships with Europe and the whole F*cking world for that matter....OK....

Again, what you said was uncessary.....and mean spirited!

Clark is the most qualify IMO....

10. Amen to that
Spitzer or Cuomo would be excellent choices for the high Court.

I'm actually surprised Spitzer is a DLCer. The work he is doing to bring the mutual fund industry in line is wonderful, and completely against the mostly pro-corporate agenda of From and Reed. Oh for an SEC that actually regulates!

11. DLCer Spitzer
I can't believe anybody would categorize Eliot Spitzer this way. This is a perfect example of kneejerk reactionaries who don't appear to have any idea of what people have actually done in particular areas. Eliot Spitzer is a hero of regular investing Americans and gets labeled "DLC". :eyes:

Clarkies, I'm telling ya', don't let this shit go on too long.

14. He is a card carrying member of the DLC
I included it in the subject line to remind people that there are many good Democrats that are New Democrats.

Edited on Thu Dec-04-03 07:36 PM by sandnsea
Usually when somebody adds DLC to someone's name, it's not intended for good purposes.

On edit, never mind, I got my posts mixed up. Still, the same thought though.

13. Spitzer'd be good
But I think Kerry would be a better VP for Clark if Clark's the nominee.

I'm saying this b.cKerry needs a miracle if he's going to be the pres. nominee -- he had some good poll #'s in Ia recently (not the latest Zogby poll, i mean other polls) and I suppose if Dean loses Iowa and Kerry pulls a strong 3rd or beats Gephardt for 2nd if Dean wins, then Kerry may be able to squeak out a win, or maybe if he out of the blue pulls a much stronger than expected 2nd place in NH he may get some momentum into the next primaries but there aren't any logical state for him. Only if he totally knocked Dean out would he have a shot in the next round of primaries, and 2nd place would buy him some buzz but by itself would not knock out Dean.
